In this “sweetly romantic coming-of-age story with fun, magical touches” (Kirkus Reviews), a girl uses her newfound ability to make people fall in love to sabotage her rival. Erin Johnson’s thirteenth birthday unfolds like any other day, from her mom’s quirky and embarrassing choice of outfit to racing her nemesis, Trevor Jin, to the best seat in class—front row, center. But her gifts this year include something very out of the ordinary: magical powers. Erin discovers her mysterious father is actually the love god Cupid and she’s inherited his knack for romance. It’s not the most useful ability for an overachiever with lofty academic and extracurricular goals…or is it? Erin desperately wants to be elected president of the Multicultural Leadership Club, and as usual, Trevor is her fiercest competition. He’s never backed down from a challenge before, but if Erin makes him fall in love with her, maybe he'd drop out of the race and let her win. With her magical pedigree, wrapping Trevor around her finger is a snap, and having him around all the time is a small price to pay for victory. But without their cutthroat rivalry bringing out the worst in each other, Erin realizes Trevor may not be as bad as she thought, and suddenly her first foray into love gets a lot more complicated…

This year, Mia is selling and delivering roses and chocolate for the Valentine’s Day fundraiser, and just like the year before, the same few popular girls are slated to receive bouquets of deliveries from their best friends. To shake things up a bit, Mia delivers an extra twenty-five roses from made-up “secret admirers” to overlooked girls who she thinks could use a confidence boost. But Mia’s meddling might have done more harm than good—especially when she realizes that one of her rose deliveries has inspired Sun Patterson to get a makeover and pursue Alex, Mia’s best friend who she might feel more than friendly toward. As the messy consequences of the extra roses unfold, Mia finds herself torn between her newfound goal to help others find their perfect match, the heavy weight of her secret actions, the friendships she is struggling to find time for, and some seriously confusing feelings for Alex. Maybe this matchmaker stuff is more complicated than it seems. Formerly published as 25 Roses.

Alice Guy BlachT (1873-1968), the world's first woman filmmaker, was one of the key figures in the development of narrative film. From 1896 to 1920 she directed 400 films (including over 100 synchronized sound films), produced hundreds more, and was the first--and so far the only--woman to own and run her own studio plant (The Solax Studio in Fort Lee, NJ, 1910-1914). However, her role in film history was completely forgotten until her own memoirs were published in 1976. This new book tells her life story and fills in many gaps left by the memoirs. Guy BlachT's life and career mirrored momentous changes in the film industry, and the long time-span and sheer volume of her output makes her films a fertile territory for the application of new theories of cinema history, the development of film narrative, and feminist film theory. The book provides a close analysis of the one hundred Guy BlachT films that survive, and in the process rewrites early cinema history.
