Excerpt from Correspondence and Other Papers Relating to the Proposed Interoceanic Ship Canal: Being a Reprint of an Executive Document of the Special Session of March 4, 1857, and of Document No. 194 of the Forty-Seventh Congress, First Session The Secretary of State, to whom was referred the resolution of the Senate of the 7 th instant, requesting the President, if in his opinion not incompatible with the public interest, to communicate to that body, in executive session, copies of the correspondence and docu ments connected with the treaty concluded at London, between the United States and Great Britain, on the 7th [17th] day of October, 1856, and communicated to the Senate with 1118 message of the loth of December, has the honor to lay before the President the accompanying papers.
