'Conversion of a High Priest into a Christian Worker' is an autobiography of the author's life, Meletios Golden. He was a high priest of the Greek Orthodox Church who left Greece for New York, and eventually left his position to become a preacher. He lays out his reasoning to do so in the following passage: "... there are a great number of intelligent minds, among the priests, in the Greek-Russian and Roman Catholic churches, who would make good soldiers of Jesus Christ, and some of them might develop into heroes of Truth and Righteousness, if they could only deny themselves of the luxuries and lofty life attached to their priesthood. And this problem of selfishness is an absolute barrier not only to their own Salvation, but to many a soul, who might have been saved from sin, and be converted to God, and usefulness, but for the Priest."

Excerpt from Conversion of a High Priest Into a Christian Worker In placing this second edition in the hands of my readers I most gratefully acknowledge the splendid assistance of my subscribers, and the kindness with which this book has been received by the General Public, who made it possible for me to accomplish my intended purpose, ever since I left home, that I should give, to the general public, an account of my conversion into a practical Christian worker, know ing that there are a great number of intelligent minds, among the priests, in the greek-russian and Roman Catholic churches, who would make good soldiers of Jesus Christ, and some of them might de velop into heroes of Truth and Righteousness, if they could only deny themselves of the luxuries and lofty life attached to their priesthood. And this prob lem of selfishness is an absolute barrier not only to their own Salvation, but to many a soul, who might have been saved from sin, and be converted to God, and usefulness, but for the Priest. The solution of the problem was the clue which aided me to escape from the labyrinth of doubt; and now, standing upon the rock of unshaken faith, I offer the clue that guided me to others. Excerpt from Early Conversion: Showing How Children and Young People Can Be Led to Jesus and Prepared for Church Membership I AM sure that the Church of Jesus Christ is sadly neglecting the children. It is true that we have our Sun day schools and other organizations for the training of children in the knowledge of the Word and God, but there is not that definite work for their conversion that there should be. N 0 other form of Christian effort brings such imme diate, such large, and such lasting results as work for the conversion of children. It has many advantages over other forms of work. First of all, children are more easily led to Christ than adults. In the second place, they are more likely to stay converted than those apparently con verted at a later period of life. They also make better Christians, as they do not have so much to unlearn as those who have grown Old in sin. They have more years of service before them. A man converted at sixty is a a soul saved plus ten years of service; a child saved at ten is a soul saved plus sixty years of service. Excerpt from Our One Priest on High, or the Present Sacerdotal Function of Christ in Heaven: What It Is Not, and What It Is The present publication may be regarded as a supple ment to my pamphlet on The Christian Doctrine Of Sacerdotium. I regretted (p. 51) that in that address it was impossible for me to deal with two texts in the Epistle to the Hebrews (p. Which are alleged as supporting the sacrificing Office Of Christ in the heavens. None who are well acquainted with the details Of our present controversies will question the importance Of meet ing the arguments which have been based upon these two texts. I have accordingly desired here to show that their true meaning has sometimes been seriously misunderstood. Excerpt from Presidency and Priesthood: The Apostacy, Reformation, and Restoration If we have it not, let others, more fortunate, point out the errors. We are in the line of the march of ideas and progress, and say, in the broadest liberality and complete freedom of inquiry, "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." We confidently believe that the latter-day glory has dawned, and the "dispensation of the fulness of times" has been ushered in, and that all the inhabitants of the world are called upon to give ear. "Hear ye." The cardinal principles of the faith are set forth, and those usually assailed by opponents are discussed at length. It is definitive, aggressive, and defensive. After an extensive research, the author has been compelled to -assume some new positions, at variance with the old school or notions, and these, of course, are to be tried by the test of time and criticism. Since the appearance of the original article, others have expressed the belief that "James, the Lord's brother, succeeded to the presidency of the church at Jerusalem, soon after the crucifixion of the Saviour." In order for convenience, and to render the work as authoritative and useful as may be, references are given to nearly all of the citations, from both sacred and profane history. Some subjects should have been more elaborately presented, but what is written will at least suggest thought, and the reader can extend his inquiry at will.
