Excerpt from Constitution and by-Laws of the American Statistical Association: With a List of Officers, Fellows, and Members, January, 1862 Article I. This Association shall be denominated the American Statistical Association. Art. II. The objects of the Association shall be to collect, preserve and diffuse statistical information in the different departments of human knowledge. Art. III. The Association shall be composed of Members, Corresponding Members, and Honorary Members. Art. IV. All Members shall be chosen by ballot, having been nominated at a previous meeting - the affirmative votes of four-fifths of the Members present being necessary to a choice. Each Member, on admission to the Association, shall pay into the treasury two dollars, and annually, afterwards, two dollars, or thirty dollars at some one time. Art. V. Members only shall be entitled to vote; but Honorary and Corresponding Members shall have the right to sit and deliberate in all the meetings of the Association.
