On further consideration, however, in View of the inclusion of complete bibliographical information with the first reference in each volume to each work cited, it seemed that the principal object of such a bibliography would be achieved by listing the works in the consolidated index, printed in this volume, with references to the first citations. Undoubtedly a systematic bibliography of Minnesota his tory would be very useful, but there is no special reason why it should be included in this work. All manuscripts and newspapers cited, unless otherwise indicated, will be found in the collections of the Minnesota Historical Society. These include, in the Folwell Papers turned over to the society by the author and his family, correspondence and records of interviews with many persons who possessed first-hand in formation.
