How do we know when what is happening between two people should be called psychoanalysis? What is a psychoanalytic process and how do we know when one is taking place? Psychoanalysis Comparable and Incomparable describes the rationale and ongoing development of a six year programme of highly original meetings conducted by the European Psychoanalytic Federation Working Party on Comparative Clinical Methods. The project comprises over seventy cases discussed by more than five hundred experienced psychoanalysts over the course of sixty workshops. Authored by a group of leading European psychoanalysts, this book explores ways for psychoanalysts using different approaches to learn from each other when they present their work to fellow psychoanalysts, and provides tools for the individual practitioner to examine and improve his or her own approach. As described in detail in its pages, sticking to the task led to some surprising experiences, raising fundamental questions about the way clinical discussion and supervision are conducted in psychoanalysis. Well known by many in the psychoanalytic community and the object of much interest and debate, this project is described by those who have had the closest contact with it and will satisfy a widely held curiosity in psychoanalysts and psychotherapists throughout the world. David Tuckett is winner of the 2007 Sigourney Award.

The interaction between media and foreign policy is a critical dimension of the so-called age of 'new military humanitarianism'. The media is now more effective in gathering and distributing information all over the world and media coverage of humanitarian wars allows for information and images to reach a wide audience with great immediacy and realism. For policy making, the 24/7 news cycle means high levels of exposure to fast-breaking international stories receiving global attention and producing a powerful 'do something!' effect. This topical book widens the debate beyond US media and policy making by considering the case of Western and Eastern European media and policy processes. It tests the wider application of existing theoretical approaches and provides useful comparisons, allowing the reader to draw conclusions on the media–policy relationship. It is an excellent resource for all those interested in political communication, European politics and media studies.

People tend to rank values of all kinds linearly from good to bad, but there is little reason to think that this is reasonable or correct. This book argues, to the contrary, that values are often partially ordered and hence frequently incomparable. Proceeding logically from a small set of axioms, John Nolt examines the great variety of partially ordered value structures, exposing fallacies that arise from overlooking them. He reveals various ways in which incomparability is obscured: using linear indices to summarize partially ordered data, relying on an inadequately defined concept of parity, or conflating incomparability with vagueness. Incomparability can enrich and clarify a range of topics including the paradoxes of Derek Parfit, rational decision theory, and the infinite values of theology. Finally, Nolt shows how to generalize many of the concepts introduced earlier, explores the intricate depths of certain noteworthy partially ordered value structures, and argues for the finitude of value. Incomparable Values will be of interest to scholars and advanced students working in ethics, value theory, rational decision theory, and logic.

This book attempts to answer two questions: Are alternatives for choice ever incomparable? and In what ways can items be compared? The arguments offered suggest that alternatives for choice no matter how different are never incomparable, and that the ways in which items can be compared are richer and more varied than commonly supposed.

India and China are often described as Asia s unidentical twins . They are two unique countries with different histories and contrasting models of development. The usual comparison between these two countries takes into account only a few selected economic parameters and is biased in favour of China. This book aims to provide a comprehensive picture of the Indian and Chinese economies and demystify various myths surrounding them. There are voluminous reports and books available on each of the topics that are covered in this book, but they are generally restricted to researchers, academicians and scholars. On the other hand, there are thousands of articles comparing India and China, which give a glimpse of the two countries but leave a reader wanting more. India and China: Comparing The Incomparable aims to strike a balance and provide a more complete picture by comparing India and China across a wide range of economic and developmental parameters.India and China: Comparing the Incomparable analyses the advantages and disadvantages of different models of growth adopted by India and China. The book:" Presents a comprehensive comparison of China and India on a variety of dimensions using the most recent data " Captures the debates around the sustainability of the development models of the two countries" Provides a broad perspective on the ongoing economic reform processes in the two countries" Rectifies the superficial analysis that is often carried out to compare the two economies " Addresses issues of common interest such as, Why are Chinese exports cheap and will they always remain cheap? , Is the Chinese currency undervalued? , Can India overtake China? , etc" Does not involve heavy jargon or complicated modes, which makes it accessible to a large readership

When you cure Comparisonitis, you will… • Be free to live your life for you (no one else) • Feel peace from within • Experience genuine happiness • Truly appreciate your body and life • Free up SO much mental bandwidth for things you LOVE • Quit beating yourself up • Have more energy to go after the things that truly matter to you • Experience a radical shift towards authenticity • Be a better friend, partner, parent, family member, colleague, human • Free yourself from expectations • Unleash the courage to go after your dreams • Unstifle your creativity • Feel more liberated than you've ever felt in your life • And much more It creeps up on you without warning—perhaps while chatting with a friend, scrolling through social media, or even just while walking down the street. All it takes is the hint of someone doing or having something you perceive as "better" than you, and it hits. A feeling takes over—intense, blinding, gutting. Your brain starts spinning with toxic thoughts about yourself (or others), and you're left feeling ashamed, guilty, and even worthless. It's called comparisonitis. And if you've suffered from it, you're NOT alone. Comparisonitis is a contagious, socially transmitted condition that occurs when you compare yourself to others so frequently and fiercely that you're left paralyzed, with your confidence in tatters and your self-worth plummeting. It may sound trivial, but this affliction can have serious adverse effects on our mental health, leading to depression, anxiety, overthinking, and regret. To make matters worse, our comparison culture is only expanding. Thanks to social media, we have more opportunities to compare ourselves than ever before, and even kids are falling into the trap. Described as a "self-help guru" by Elle magazine, Melissa has experienced the effects of comparisonitis first hand, having worked extensively in industries like acting, modeling and dancing where comparison culture is not only rampant but openly encouraged. Melissa knows all too well how comparisonitis is infecting our minds and hurting our hearts, and in this book, she'll help you heal from this disease, liberate your headspace, and raise your self-worth so radically that you'll never let comparison rob you of your joy and happiness again.
