Every family has proverbs and sayings that are passed down through the generations, and author Miguel Lagunas's family is no exception. In Como decía mi tía Graciana, Lagunas shares proverbs from a Mexican family matriarch, illustrating the secret to happiness, how to live harmoniously with others, and respect for others. Although Graciana was not a real person, her sayings, advice, and proverbs have been passed down through many generations and have become daily sayings in many Spanish-speaking households. Como decía mi tía Graciana is translated in both English and Spanish so that you can enjoy these proverbs in both languages. In Como decía mi tía Graciana, you will read such proverbs as - A la feria muchos van, pero a ver y no a comprar (Many go to the fair, but to look and not to shop); - A la fruta dura, el tiempo madura (Time ripens hard fruit; time matures immaturity); and - A la hija muda, su madre la entiende (A quiet daughter is understood by her mother).

This book offers perspectives on the legal and intellectual developments of the twelfth century. Gratian's collection of Church law, the Decretum, was a key text in these developments. Compiled in around 1140, it remained a fundamental work throughout and beyond the Middle Ages. Until now, the many mysteries surrounding the creation of the Decretum have remained unsolved, thereby hampering exploration of the jurisprudential renaissance of the twelfth century. Professor Winroth has now discovered the original version of the Decretum, which has long lain unnoticed among medieval manuscripts, in a version about half as long as the final text. It is also different from the final version in many respects - for example, with regard to the use of of Roman law sources - enabling a reconsideration of the resurgence of law in the twelfth century.

The discovery of dinosaurs and other large extinct saurians - a term under which the Victorians commonly lumped ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs, pterosaurs and their kin - makes exciting reading and has caught the attention of palaeontologists, historians of science and the general public alike. The papers in this collection go beyond the familiar tales about famous fossil hunters and focus on relatively little-known episodes in the discovery and interpretation (from both a scientific and an artistic point of view) of dinosaurs and other inhabitants of the Mesozoic world. They cover a long time span, from the beginnings of modern scientific palaeontology in the 1700s to the present, and deal with many parts of the world, from the Yorkshire coast to Central India, from Bavaria to the Sahara. The characters in these stories include professional palaeontologists and geologists (some of them well-known, others quite obscure), explorers, amateur fossil collectors, and artists, linked together by their interest in Mesozoic creatures.
