Common Waveform Analysis, which will be of interest to both electrical engineers and mathematicians, applies the classic Fourier analysis to common waveforms. The following questions are answered: Can a signal be considered a superposition of common waveforms with different frequencies? How can a signal be decomposed into a series of common waveforms? How can a signal best be approximated using finite common waveforms? How can a combination of common waveforms that equals a given signal at N uniform points be found? Can common waveforms be used in techniques that have traditionally been based on sine-cosine functions? Common Waveform Analysis represents the most advanced research available to research scientists and scholars working in fields related to the area.

The author believes that a good basic understanding of electronics can be achieved by detailed visual analyses of the actual voltage waveforms present in selected circuits. The voltage waveforms included in this text were photographed using a 35-rrun camera in an attempt to make the book more attractive. This book is intended for the use of students with a variety of backgrounds. For this reason considerable material has been placed in the Appendix for those students who find it useful. The Appendix includes many basic electricity and electronic concepts as well as mathematical derivations that are not vital to the understanding of the circuit being discussed in the text at that time. Also some derivations might be so long that, if included in the text, it could affect the concentration of the student on the circuit being studied. The author has tried to make the book comprehensive enough so that a student could use it as a self-study course, providing one has access to adequate laboratory equipment.

Basic Wave Analysis

Basic Wave Analysis

Genre: Seismic prospecting

The purpose of this book is to provide the information required for understanding the fundamental aspects of the elaborate computer processing schemes prevalent in exploration geophysics. Basic Wave Analysis has three parts. Part 1 addresses velocity analysis. The correct determination of velocity is the most important problem in seismic exploration, and an understanding of velocity analysis is a valuable asset for a geophysicist. Part 2 discusses raypath analysis. Raypaths provide a geometrical picture of how waves travel, so that a person can visualize raypaths in their imagination. Geometrical pictures are as important in seismology as they are in optics. Part 3 addresses wavefront analysis. A person cannot easily visualize traveling wavefronts in their imagination; however, a computer can follow their motion, and give the geophysicist the final outcome. Knowledge of wavefront analysis helps a geophysicist understand many modern computer methods. This book has not been written to address advanced subjects. Rather, it concentrates on the basic concepts of Fermat and Huygens to explore and understand basic wave analysis. This book is based upon inventive science. It deals with ideas, and not with numerical algorithms. It does not explain the details the many migration and inversion methods use, but it does provide readers with the tools needed to make those topics more understandable. The three parts of this book are in the order of increasing difficulty, and the most important part is Part 1, because velocity analysis is central to every seismic investigation.

This textbook explains the fundamentals of electric circuits and uses the transfer function as a tool to analyze circuits, systems, and filters. The author avoids the Fourier transform and three phase circuits, since these topics are often not taught in circuits courses. General transfer functions for low pass, high pass, band pass and band reject filters are demonstrated, with first order and higher order filters explained in plain language. The author’s presentation is designed to be accessible to a broad audience, with the concepts of circuit analysis explained in basic language, reinforced by numerous, solved examples.
