The only guide of its kind, Line Color Form offers a thorough introduction to design theory and terminology in a visually appealing and accessible format. With hundreds of illustrations and minimal text, this primer was created with visual learners in mind, making it ideal for art students as well as those for whom English is a second language. Each chapter focuses on a single aspect of visual composition, such as line, color, or material. After an illustrated discussion of fundamental vocabulary, the chapters move on to applications of the concepts through images, including photographs, color wheels, significant works of art, and other visual aids. Each image is accompanied by a descriptive paragraph offering an example of how the vocabulary can be applied in visual analysis. The book culminates with a section on formal analysis, aimed at teaching readers how to express their observations in formal writing and critical discourse. Whether you are a design educator, student, or professional, native or non-native English speaker, this reference is a must.

The Art of Short Form Content: From Concept to Color Correction is an in-depth examination of the craft of creating short form filmic content – a category which includes television commercials, music videos, television promos, movie trailers, digital billboards, corporate videos, and pretty much anything else with a running time under five minutes. Though short form is an important part of the film industry, it is typically overlooked in books on the art of filmmaking. The Art of Short Form Content fills this industry void by answering the type of questions that working short form content creators deal with every day. As Cook explains, though short form content is limited in duration, it is not limited in quality and message. In this step-by-step, full-color guide you will find: • Interviews with leading short form content creators • Details on how to create everything from a corporate piece to a Super Bowl spot • Strategies for how to quickly attract viewer attention to your content • Extensive information on how to best utilize the craft of film-making in an advertising context • A comprehensive companion website that can be found at www.focalpress.com/cw/cook

"This unique and fascinating book, filled with brilliant photographs, offers a journey into the cosmos of the natural tooth. With cross sections and other unusual perspectives, these photographs demonstrate the unique structure and form of each tooth and their interplay with light reflection and absorption, both of which play decisive roles in the reconstruction of the tooth. Indeed, this understanding has greatly advanced the development and handling of new dental ceramics." "The author lures us into an extraordinary world of photography by which we experience the inner life and beauty of the natural tooth. This excellently designed volume will be of interest to not only dentists and dental technicians, but to anyone interested in the beauty of nature."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Mark Eli Kalderon presents an original study in the philosophy of perception written in the medium of historiography. He considers the phenomenology and metaphysics of sensory presentation through the examination of an ancient aporia. Specifically, he argues that a puzzle about perception at a distance is behind Empedocles' theory of vision. Empedocles conceives of perception as a mode of material assimilation, but this raises a puzzle about color vision, since color vision seems to present colors that inhere in distant objects. But if the colors inhere in distant objects how can they be taken in by the organ of sight and so be palpable to sense? Aristotle purports to resolve this puzzle in his definition of perception as the assimilation of sensible form without the matter of the perceived particular. Aristotle explicitly criticizes Empedocles, though he is keen to retain the idea that perception is a mode of assimilation, if not a material mode. Aristotle's notorious definition has long puzzled commentators. Kalderon shows how, read in light of Empedoclean puzzlement about the sensory presentation of remote objects, Aristotle's definition of perception can be better understood. Moreover, when so read, the resulting conception of perception is both attractive and defensible.

As we look back at a career over fifty years and counting, we realize that Dale Chihuly's five best- known series"€"the Baskets, Seaforms, Macchia, Persians, and the Venetians"€"which were created sequentially in rapid succession over a nine-year period from 1977 through 1986"€"were the ones that really defined his aesthetic and effected the most dramatic change in the centuries-old medium of glass. In recognition of the importance of these five series, Chihuly Workshop has chosen to reissue in this single-volume format, essays on these bodies of work that were initially part of a multi-volume edition published in 2009 and 2010. The texts have been updated slightly with some fresh observations about how this modern master continues to grow and refine his aesthetic and impact the art of today.

Creative Art: Methods and Materials educates readers about a variety of art methods and the ways different civilizations have used them in artistic expression. Each of the fourteen chapters is designed around a specific art method and material, and includes examples of art works and the artists who created them. Students learn about bronze casting, stone carving, clay sculpture, woodcuts and posters, glass work, and installation art. Each method is matched to artists both ancient and modern. Rather than adhering to a standard approach that focuses on white, male, European artists, the book broadens the student's perspective by including often overlooked female artists. Global in approach and comprehensive in coverage of arts forms, representations, and styles throughout history, Creative Art has been developed for sixteen-week courses in art appreciation, or introductory survey courses in art history.
