In this precise and authoritative urological text Mr Ronald Brown and his associates have scored two firsts. In its emphasis throughout on the im portance of clinical assessment, history taking and physical examination, together with its wealth of illustrations, it offers a' unique view of genitourinary medicine; and it is the first clinical urology text to be written by an Australian. The authors' approach to their subject is ideal for students and physicians confronted with patients with genitourinary problems. The text is concise, the references valuable and the index comprehensive. I was particularly in terested in the chapter on Paediatric Urology with its admirably succinct of hypospadias, but the outstanding feature of the whole book discussion is the line drawings and illustrative x-rays, not only excellent in themselves but in their presentation: the clear uncrowded layout making it easy for the reader to consult the appropriate illustration nearby, and where helpful there has been no hesitation in using the same diagram in several different places. If my students know everything that's in this book they will know more than most urologists. It is especially gratifying to me to see this fine book emanate from Australia and to know that four of the authors have had their stimulus to excellence in work here at UCLA.

Images in Urology is a unique book that integrates images of urological conditions within their clinical context. Improvements in imaging techniques have meant greater diagnostic power and a dramatic rise in the number and quality of images obtained and viewed by practicing clinicians. None more so than in the field of urology, where static and dynamic images are fundamental to the diagnosis and treatment of almost all conditions. This book presents images of radiological and radionucleotide scans, macroscopic and microscopic histopathology specimens, urodynamic traces and photographs of dermatological conditions relating to urology. Each section has a series of questions, often relating to a clinical scenario, about the images. A comprehensive answer provides a description of each image and of the condition shown. Details of how to interpret the image and the use of contrast or staining methods to help differentiate normal anatomy from pathology are included. Images in Urology is an essential tool for urology, radiology and histopathology trainees and consultants, as well as being an excellent exam preparation guide.

This multidisciplinary book provides up-to-date information on clinical approaches that combine stem or progenitor cells, biomaterials and scaffolds, growth factors, and other bioactive agents in order to offer improved treatment of urologic disorders including lower urinary tract dysfunction, urinary incontinence, neurogenic bladder, and erectile dysfunction. In providing clinicians and researchers with a broad perspective on the development of regenerative medicine technologies, it will assist in the dissemination of both regenerative medicine principles and a variety of exciting therapeutic options. After an opening section addressing current developments and future perspectives in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, fundamentals such as cell technologies, biomaterials, bioreactors, bioprinting, and decellularization are covered in detail. The remainder of the book is devoted to the description and evaluation of a range of cell and tissue applications, with individual chapters focusing on the kidney, bladder, urethra, urethral sphincter, and penis and testis.

Transitional Urology is designed to fill a critical gap that exists in the published literature by comprehensively addressing the urological challenges facing adolescents and adults with complex congenital anomalies of the genitourinary system. It provides a valuable resource to pediatricians and pediatric urologists facing urological management issues beyond their expertise in their aging patients as well as technical guidance to adult urologists who may have had little or no experience caring for patients with a congenital condition. This work will service as a field guide to congenitalism, providing a “how to” approach to guide the urologist using real clinical examples for the most common and challenging urological problems encountered. It also provides a framework for the transition process from pediatric to adult-centered care, with a special emphasis on the multidisciplinary nature needed to provide patient-centered care. Specific conditions that require special consideration, including myelomeningocele, exstrophy, posterior urethral valves, and hypospadias are highlighted. Topics considered common in the general urology practice- like infertility and sexual dysfunction are addressed within the context of patients with neurological or anatomical complexity. In addition, this text reviews urological complaints for which basic clinical algorithms are well-established within the context of a congenitally-abnormal bladder. Chapters discuss how and when special testing like video urodynamnics and positional fluoroscopy may be warranted to provide critical diagnostic guidance. The text also review how typical age-related urological phenomena, like elevated PSA, hypogonadism, and BPH, may present in this subset of patients and how treatment of these conditions may be different than the general population.

The Atlas of Robotic Urologic Surgery provides a detailed, step-by-step guide to common robotic urologic procedures for the purpose of helping novice surgeons in their transition to robotic surgery and seasoned robotic surgeons to refine their surgical technique and expand their repertoire of robotic procedures. In addition, less commonly performed robotic procedures such as those for male infertility, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary tract reconstruction and pediatrics are included. Each chapter is written by the thought leaders in robotic urologic surgery with descriptive step-by-step text, complimented by figures and intraoperative photographs detailing the nuances of each procedure. Emphasis is placed on operative setup, instrument and equipment needs and surgical techniques for both the primary surgeon as well as the operative assistant. The use of ancillary equipment and robotic instrument and endoscope exchanges are highlighted throughout the procedural text by tables designed to aid surgeons and their teams in improving efficiency. This volume will provide unique insights into robotic urologic surgery and reduce the learning curve of accomplishing these increasingly popular procedures.
