Tank Turret Fortifications traces the origins of the idea from the development of the first armoured turrets in the nineteenth century through to the present day. On the way it covers the inter-war period when the first turrets were used in this way, the Second World War, when tank turrets were used on every front in the European Theatre of Operations, and the post-war period, when tank turrets were used even more widely. The book also details the decline of the idea as countries reassessed the threats they faced and slowly dismantled all their fixed fortifications. Widely used during World War Two and since, tank turret fortifications deserve a history, and Neil Short has spent several years writing this, the first proper study.

January 2021 This is probably the toughest book I've attempted. Partly due to the lack of open-source information available and partly because of the Covid-19 lockdown. Anyway, I decided to go ahead and publish what I have since there are so few books on the subject out there. This is just the start as there are a lot of vehicles out there and I plan to add the ones I missed. Please let me know which I missed and I will add them. I would like to "crowd source" this book and ask that readers go to our web site (USGOVPUB.com) and send me comments to fill in the information gaps. Rather than writing a negative review, how about sending me the suggested changes and improvements and I then update the text as soon as I get your comments? I plan to upload updates on the last day of the month if I get input. In any event, I will continue to research the missing information myself and make corrections as I find them. Note that the pictures on the cover are a graphical Table of Contents. The page number is written before the vehicle name. Also, I hate to see blank pages, so I placed the cover page for a few suggested titles you may be interested in looking at. If you have ideas for future titles, let me know and I will see how much info is out there and try and publish suggested titles. Thank you for your continued support. 4th Watch publishing is a SDVOSB. The Soviet T\-34 medium tank needs no introduction, being the most famous tank ever built especially as has seen service across the globe throughout the twentieth century’s most brutal wars. However, despite this fame, little has been written about its design changes. While most tank enthusiasts can differentiate between the ‘T\-34\/76’ and the ‘T\-34\-85’, identifying different factory production batches has proven more elusive. Until now. With nearly six hundred photographs, mostly taken by soldiers who both operated and fought against the T\-34, this book seeks to catalogue and contextualise even the subtlest details to create a true ‘T\-34 continuum’. The book begins with the antecedents of the T\-34, the ill\-fated BT ‘fast tank’ series and the influence of the traumatic Spanish Civil War before moving to an in\-depth look at the T\-34’s prototypes. After this, every factory production change is catalogued and contextualised, with never\-before\-seen photographs and stunning technical drawings. Furthermore, four battle stories are also integrated to explain the changing battle context when major production changes take place. The production story is completed with sections on the T\-34’s post\-war production (and modification) by Czechoslovakia, Poland, and the People’s Republic of China, as well as T\-34 variants.

In July 1937, the Marco Polo Bridge Incident sparked a bloody conflict between Chinese and Japanese forces that would rage across China and beyond for more than eight years. The two sides' forces brought very different strengths and limitations to the conflict. In 1937 China was divided into factions, each controlled by warlords with independent forces, and there was no unified Chinese army. In order to fight the Japanese Chiang Kai-shek, the nominal leader of Nationalist China, was compelled to do deals with these regional powers. For their part, the Japanese employed ground forces broadly comparable to those fielded by Western powers, including modern artillery and tanks. Featuring specially commissioned artwork and drawing upon an array of sources, this study investigates the origins, training, doctrine and armament of the Chinese and Japanese forces who fought in the opening stages of the Second Sino-Japanese War.
