The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has commissioned a study into what children and young people experience and think about safety in institutional contexts. The first part of the study held 10 focus groups with 121 children and young people aged 4-18 years old in several states of Australia, and the second part involved an online survey of children and young people aged 10-18. This paper is one of four summarising key findings from the survey. It explores children and young people's views about safety in institutions, what they believe makes an institution safe for children and young people, and what advice they would give adults about dealing with their safety needs.
