David Garrison, PhD University of Chicago, defines Church Planting Movements as rapidly multiplying indigenous churches planting churches that sweep across a people group or population segment. Garrison's Church Planting Movements: How God Is Redeeming a Lost World signaled a breakthrough in missionary church planting. After the publication of Garrison's book in 2004 it became impossible to talk about missions without referencing Church Planting Movements. Church Planting Movements examines more than two-dozen movements of multiplying churches on five continents. After presenting these case studies, Garrison identifies ten universal elements present in each movement. He then broadens the circle of examination to identify a further ten common characteristics, factors identified in most, but not all, of the movements. He concludes his examination with a list of "Seven Deadly Sins," i.e. harmful practices that stifle or impede Church Planting Movements. Important for evangelical readers, the author returns to his findings to see how they stand up to the light of Scripture. What he discovers is that Church Planting Movements are much more consistent with the New Testament lay-led house-church movements that swept rapidly through the Mediterranean world in the face of hostile opposition than today's more sedentary professional institutionalized Christianity. This book explores how God has used small groups throughout church history, specifically focusing on the early church to the present time. God not only established the early church as a house to house movement, but he also has used small groups throughout church history. This book chronicles the small group or cell movement from Jesus all the way to the modern day cell explosion. Themes include: -Small Groups In Biblical History -Small Groups In Early Christian History -Small Groups and Monasticism -Small Groups During the Pre-Reformation Period -Luther and Small Groups -Martin Bucer and Small Groups -The Anabaptist Movement -Puritan Conventicles -Pietism -The Moravians -The Methodists -Modern House Churches -Small Groups in North America -The Modern Day Cell Church This book will both critique the strengths and weaknesses of these historical movements and apply principles to today's church. You will grow in appreciation and understanding of key small group principles from those pioneers who have paved the way. You will also learn to value those movers and shakers who faced far greater odds to implement small groups than the difficulties confronted today. Many have struggled with the same things you're wrestling with now. And just like they found solutions in the face of persecution and trial, God will help you to persevere, find solutions, and ultimately bear abundant fruit for his kingdom and glory.

In this book, the author explains why the traditional structure of evangelizing, assimilating and discipling leaders will never be fast enough or efficient enough to facilitate the revival that God has promised. He explains how the cell model, a simple tool in the hand of the Lord, can strengthen churches and prepare members for the rush of new believers.

The gospel is the best news on the face of this earth. Many believers, however, don't have a clear understanding of what that good news is nor how to share it. Share offers practical insights to help a believer boldly proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to friends, neighbors, and loved ones. This book is not only designed to equip a believer individually to share his or her faith, but it also instructs a small group how to witness to those outside the Christian faith. Share will especially help believers develop relationships with non-Christians by following the example of Jesus Christ, who was a "friend of sinners." This book can be used in a classroom setting or one-on-one. Share forms part of a five-book series that equips a person to become a fruitful disciple of Jesus Christ. TABLE OF CONTENTS Lesson 1: Sharing Good News Lesson 2: Sowing the Seed Lesson 3: Relational Evangelism Lesson 4: Looking for Open Doors Lesson 5: How to Share the Message Lesson 6: Sharing Your Journey Lesson 7: Fishing with a Net Lesson 8: Meeting Needs as a Group Appendix: How to Coach Someone using this Material Index
