The Celestial Journey of the Soul explores the astrological dimension of the Gospel of Mark. According to the author, the Gospel of Mark is structured on the zodiac, and each of the zodiacal sections of the Gospel contains profound teachings on the nature of the spiritual life. The book outlines these teachings and explores their contemporary significance. Darlison argues that the Gospel was not originally intended to be read as a historical text, but as a description of the stages through which every person must pass on the his or her way to self-transformation. Each chapter is prefaced by the author's own translation of a relevant passage from the Gospel and by a story which reinforces the spiritual lesson. This radical interpretation of the Jesus story is based on the author's controversial book, The Gospel and the Zodiac, which was published in 2007 by Duckworth/Overlook. Bill Darlison is Minister Emeritus of Dublin Unitarian Church

Back to Earth is the powerful, personal journey of a man in his middle years who senses that he has drifted away from the ideals of his youth and who must now search for coherence, belief, and a renewed spirituality following the breakup of his marriage and family. Living alone in a cabin in the woods, Temple searches his past and tells tales of experiences backpacking in Colorado, Dakota, New Mexico and Alaska. His reflections focus on the spiritual and redemptive qualities of nature, the American character, and the dilemmas of the split between matter and spirit, body and soul, God and creation. As an "earnest pilgrim with a short attention span", Temple's story chronicles his journey from an intimacy with the earth to an alienation from it, and the need of all humans to find a redemptive reunion. The book is a kind of pilgrimage as the author tries to get back home, to find God, to learn what our species once knew, and to rediscover the heart and soul of creation.

Can anything be more agonizing than the burden of an idea that we are doomed to die at the end? Imagine all your struggles on this earth, and the experiences you had acquired, will one day be gone as that flash of life energy leaves the encumbered casing. That is exactly what most people accept to be true. Our inability to understand our soul’s journeys is our inability to understand our physical and immaterial existence. That most of us cannot differentiate physical material and nonphysical immaterial existence is reason enough not to understand creation and its purpose. But once we understand, we begin to see the purpose for physical material death and the reason for the immaterial part of us to rejuvenate by taking a new cocoon—a new body—to continue its journeys and its purpose to learn and experience. Always remember that life existed before creations.

This work, originally titled, Itinerarium mentis in Deum, was completed in 1259 AD and follows St. Augustine’s path to God, from the external world to the interior world of the mind, and then beyond the mind from the temporal to the eternal. It remains as a significant work in the corpus of the medieval Christian Mystical tradition, and its creative imagery remains a staple of both Christian art and Catholic homiletics.
