Before any kind of new physics discovery could be made at the LHC, a precise understanding and measurement of the Standard Model of particle physics' processes was necessary. The ISMD 2005 conference reviewed and updated the theoretical and experimental understanding of multiparticle production in high energy collisions. About half of the papers discussed collisions of ultra-relativistic nuclei with recent results from RHIC.
