Excerpt from Catalogue of the Library of the Institute of Actuaries, 1906 The formation and maintenance of a Library was, from the foundation of the Institute, regarded as an important branch of its work, and generous donors have, by gifts during their lifetime, or by bequest, made many valuable contributions to its shelves. The Royal Charter of July 1884 refers to the Library as one of the objects to be promoted by the Council, who have ever made it their business to consider, and adopt, where practicable, suggestions for its increased usefulness and its welfare has been (since 1889) the constant and assiduous care of Honorary Librarians appointed for the purpose.
