Twelve Navy harbors in the Continental U.S. require maintenance dredging in excess of 0.1 M cu yd per year. They account for 78% of the Navy's annual 9M cu yd total. Two thirds of the area dredged is located within quiet water berths, typically formed between rows of pile piers.
