“Exquisitely written with compelling characters and romance . . . I was swept away by the enchanting and magical world Rebecca Ross crafted, and loved every moment of it.” — Sue Lynn Tan, bestselling author of Daughter of the Moon Goddess Enter the isle of Cadence in this novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Divine Rivals—a Scottish-inspired fantasy brimming with enemies-to-lovers romance, magic and spirits, and a captivating mystery It starts with a letter and an ominous journey across dark waters. Ten years after being sent away to the mainland to become a bard, Jack Tamerlaine is summoned home to Cadence. Girls are going missing from the island, and Adaira, his childhood nemesis and the future leader of the clan, believes Jack is the only one who can find them. The elemental spirits that dwell in every breath of air, splash of water, blade of grass, and flicker of fire find mirth in the lives of the humans, and a bard’s music is the only way to summon them and ask that the girls be returned. Yet as Jack and Adaira get closer to solving the mystery, it becomes apparent that an older, darker secret about Cadence lurks beneath the surface, and no harp song may be strong enough to stop it. With unforgettable characters, a thrilling plot, and a lush folklore-infused world, A River Enchanted is a stirring story of duty, love, and creating harmony between opposing forces. This first book in the Elements of Cadence duology marks Rebecca Ross’s brilliant entry on the adult fantasy stage.

The variety and complexity of cadenceThe concept of closure is crucial to understanding music from the “classical” style. This volume focuses on the primary means of achieving closure in tonal music: the cadence. Written by leading North American and European scholars, the nine essays assembled in this volume seek to account for the great variety and complexity inherent in the cadence by approaching it from different (sub)disciplinary angles, including music-analytical, theoretical, historical, psychological (experimental), as well as linguistic. Each of these essays challenges, in one way or another, our common notion of cadence. Controversial viewpoints between the essays are highlighted by numerous cross-references. Given the ubiquity of cadences in tonal music in general, this volume is aimed not only at a broad portion of the academic community, scholars and students alike, but also at music performers. Contributors Pieter Bergé (KU Leuven), Poundie Burstein (City University of New York), Vasili Byros (Northwestern University), William Caplin (McGill University), Felix Diergarten (Schola Cantorum Basiliensis), Nathan John Martin (Yale University / KU Leuven), Danuta Mirka (University of Southampton), Markus Neuwirth (KU Leuven), Julie Pedneault-Deslauriers (University of Ottawa), Martin Rohrmeier (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), and David Sears (McGill University)

A powerful perspective about preaching, "Cadences of Home" suggests that sermons must speak to those who are lost and searching for their rightful home. Brueggemann argues for a dynamic transformation of preaching to proclaim to the world that there is a home for all people.

"At once a fast-paced mystery and a love story as warm as a hearth . . . This is a classic in the making." — Ava Reid, internationally bestselling author of The Wolf and the Woodsman, on A River Enchanted The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Divine Rivals returns to the magical isle of Cadence to find the balance between the human and faery realms imperiled in this stunning conclusion to the Elements of Cadence duology that began with A River Enchanted East and west. Humans and spirits. Breccans and Tamerlaines. The Isle of Cadence has always held itself in a tenuous balance. But now Bane, the spirit of the North Wind, has pushed everything off-kilter in a bid to claim dominion over human and spirit alike. In the east, a sickness is spreading among the people of the Tamerlaine clan. As healer Sidra desperately searches for a cure, her husband, Torin, the clan’s new leader, attempts to draw answers from the spirits. But the further he strays into the realm of the elementals, the more lost he and the clan become. In the west, Jack decides to take up his harp and cross the clan line, not only to reunite with Adaira, but to unravel a sinister mystery that would grant him the knowledge to defeat Bane and restore peace to the isle. Yet no one can challenge the North Wind without paying a price, and the sacrifice required this time may just be the ultimate one. Rebecca Ross weaves an enchanting tapestry of mystery and magic, love and sacrifice, in this thrilling conclusion to the Elements of Cadence duology.
