Software services are established as a programming concept, but their impact on the overall architecture of enterprise IT and business operations is not well-understood. This has led to problems in deploying SOA, and some disillusionment. The SOA Source Book adds to this a collection of reference material for SOA. It is an invaluable resource for enterprise architects working with SOA.The SOA Source Book will help enterprise architects to use SOA effectively. It explains: What SOA is How to evaluate SOA features in business terms How to model SOA How to use The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF ) for SOA SOA governance This book explains how TOGAF can help to make an Enterprise Architecture. Enterprise Architecture is an approach that can help management to understand this growing complexity.

Digital convergence is redefining industries, and putting information, knowledge and collaboration at the heart of strategic leadership and management. In the face of such change it is those leaders who can ‘orchestrate’ a complex network of employees, customers and suppliers in a single ongoing learning experience that will succeed. Exploring four learning roles for customers (information acquirer; explorer; performer; inventor) and orchestrators (conductor; architect; auctioneer; promoter), Business Orchestration provides a strategic view of how to harness digital convergence by mobilizing and integrating the resources of other companies to create business value.

After a brief introduction to the topic of business process modeling, the book offers a quick-start into model-based business process engineering. After that, the foundations of the modeling languages used are conveyed. Meaningful examples are in the foreground - each of the underlying formalisms is treated only as far as needed. Next the Horus Method is described in detail. The book defines a sequence of activities which finally leads to the creation of a complete business process model. The Horus Method, incidentally, is not bound to the use of the Horus software tools. It can be used with other tools or, if necessary, be used even without tool support. Important application fields of business process engineering are described, where the spectrum ranges from business process reengineering to the development and implementation of information systems. The book concludes with an outlook on the future of business process engineering and highlights current research activities in the area.

In Beyond E-Business: Towards Networked Structures Paul Grefen returns with his tried and tested BOAT framework for e-business, now fully expanded and updated with the very latest overview of digitally connected business; from business models, organization structures and architecture, to information technology. What used to be termed "e-business" is now simply business as usual. Today’s successful organizations are complex; they are part of dynamic business networks built on digital channels, going far beyond traditional e-business. This text provides invaluable insights of modern e-business integrated with networked business, going much further than the usual analysis of traditional e-business texts. Included is coverage of the Big Five—social media, mobile computing, big data, cloud computing, and the internet of things --as well as service-oriented business and technology. This essential text provides a compact roadmap to networked e-business for engineering, information systems or business students as well as professionals in the field.

Welcome to the European Conference on Software Architecture (ECSA), which is the premier European software engineering conference. ECSA provides researchers and practitioners with a platform to present and discuss the most recent, innovative, and significant findings and experiences in the field of software architecture research and practice. The fourth edition of ECSA was built upon a history of a successful series of European workshops on software architecture held from 2004 through 2006 and a series of European software architecture conferences from 2007 through 2009. The last ECSA was merged with the 8th Working IEEE/IFIP Conference on Software Architecture (WICSA). Apart from the traditional technical program consisting of keynote talks, a main - search track, and a poster session, the scope of the ECSA 2010 was broadened to incorporate other tracks such as an industry track, doctoral symposium track, and a tool demonstration track. In addition, we also offered several workshops and tutorials on diverse topics related to software architecture. We received more than 100 submissions in the three main categories: full research and experience papers, emerging research papers, and research challenges papers. The conference attracted papers (co-)authored by researchers, practitioners, and academics from 30 countries (Algeria, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, I- land, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, United Kingdom, United States).

While business functions such as manufacturing, operations, and marketing often utilize various software applications, they tend to operate without the ability to interact with each other and exchange data. This provides a challenge to gain an enterprise-wide view of a business and to assist real-time decision making. Service-Driven Approaches to Architecture and Enterprise Integration addresses the issues of integrating assorted software applications and systems by using a service driven approach. Supporting the dynamics of business needs, this book highlights the tools, techniques, and governance aspects of design, and implements cost-effective enterprise integration solutions. It is a valuable source of information for software architects, SOA practitioners, and software engineers as well as researchers and students in pursuit of extensible and agile software design.
