Excerpt from Bulletin of the Charleston Museum, Vol. 5: 1905 1909 The Charleston Museum was in existence as early as 1777 under the auspices of the Charleston Library Society, was transferred to the Literary and Philosophical Society of South Carolina in 1815, to the Medical School in 1828, and to the College of Charleston in 1850. In 1907 a building was provided by the City and the name changed to The Charleston Museum. The Museum is dependent upon dues from members and private subscriptions for all permanent improvements, for increase of the collections, and for maintenance of its educational and scientific work. The privileges of members include admission on pay days, tickets to members' lecture courses, and copies of Museum publications. The Bulletin of the Charleston Museum is published monthly, from October to May, by the Museum and is entered at the Post Office at Charleston, S. C., as second class matter.
