Excerpt from Branch of Research: Monthly Report of Forest Experiment Stations, Forest Products, Forest Economics, Range Research; April 1930 Mr. L. W. R. Jackson, who has been doing graduate work at the Uni versity of Pennsylvania in the past year, will be reinstated in the Bureau of Plant Industry on July 1, and has accepted one of the new Phila delphia assignments. Hough visited the tract controlled by the Bureau of Animal Indus try at Beltsville, Md., and finds that although there is a considerable area of woodland suitable for experimentation, and although the Bureau is quite cordial in its offers of this tract for experimental purposes, there is no positive assurance that the ground will not eventually be cleared for new pastures. Under the circumstances we should certainly be in no hurry to consider this tract as a branch station. Although almost entire ly in the coastal plain, and on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, where we have tentatively thought we would like to locate a branch station, this tract does not appear to be thoroughly typical, because of the lack of Virginia pine.
