Joseph Carlile (d.1717/1718), by tradition an immigrant from Scotland, lived in York, Maine during or before 1688, and married (1) Elizabeth Bane (Bean ?) and (2) widow Rachel (Main) Preble. Descendants and relatives listed lived chiefly in Maine, and those indexed lived chiefly in Lincoln and York Counties, Maine. Some descendants and relatives lived in California and elsewhere.
