"Included are illustrations explaining how Hannah thinks and reacts, minicomics, and an author’s note explaining that her son, the illustrator of this novel, is on the autism spectrum.... This is an inclusive, fun addition to the middle-school mystery field." ―Booklist "Hannah is a lovable, relatable protagonist…. Her story provides some clever lessons on life’s grey areas, which are universally frustrating (even if they manifest differently for all of us)." —School Library Journal "Hannah Sharpe is courageous, smart, talented, and funny. " —Ethan Long, award-winning creator of The Death and Life of Benny Brooks From the creators of the bestselling My Life series comes a fresh and funny story about Hannah Sharpe—an observant young sleuth on the autism spectrum who likes to solve mysteries by drawing cartoons of her cowboy alter ego, Dusty Pickle—in this colorfully illustrated adventure featuring full-color art on every page. Young cartoonist Hannah Sharpe has many strengths: she’s curious, creative, has an amazing memory, and most important—she notices things. When Doug Williams moves into her family’s Airbnb, Hannah can’t shake the feeling that he’s got something to hide. But his girlfriend, Remy Furtado, couldn’t be nicer or more helpful. As Hannah investigates, often with her sketchbook in hand, she makes a series of unsettling discoveries involving stolen packages, changed keypad codes, and hidden stacks of cash. Can Hannah crack the case and unfold the mystery on her own? Including full-color illustrations with panel art featuring Hannah and her cartoon alter ego, Dusty Pickle, here is a thoughtful and propulsive new book starring a neurodiverse protagonist.

I want to tell a story of how kids from different backgrounds and cultures came together in the summer of 1970, and grew during that fall to produce an 8-0 undefeated football season. This book is a journal of my own personal experiences with that team. These memories, along with personal accounts, recollections, periodical reports are recalled in this memoir. Also included are anecdotes that I gathered from players, cheerleaders, teachers, coaches and sports writers. While compiling information to glorify the achievements of that great team, I discovered that WNA had a tradition of assembling undefeated football teams that dates back to 1933, and were known for their tenacious football style as far back as 1895. When I showed up at West Nottingham Academy in the fall of 1970, our nation was at war with Vietnam, and we were still healing from the aftermath of the shooting of Dr. Martin Luther King where all of the large inner cities had exploded with anger, hatred and riots. My choice to attend a primarily white school was a bit ambitious so I was feeling a bit ambivalent, and a little worried about this new adventure that I was embarking on at this countryside campus in rural Maryland. I had a few nasty racial encounters while in Florida that had left me wondering about my reach out and be friends with everyone attitude. As it turned out, it was a decision that would define my future, and growth into a man . . . . and not just a black man. What I experienced in that rural prep school and in particular what I learned during that wonderful season of comradeship and accomplishment taught me a lot about community that I have carried through the years with me and has kept bringing me back. While attending the 2008 Homecoming at West Nottingham Academy, I discovered that football had been dropped from the schools athletic program. This was my motivation for writing this journal of sorts. I hope it will bring enough attention to the alumni and the administrators at the school to put a competitive football team back on campus. Football has a way of bringing together people who otherwise have very little in common. It brings together student and faculty as well as creates a common goal for all of the campus to reach for in addition to an exhilarating educational experience.

Professional poets spend many hours crafting a finished piece of work, yet we expect children in school to sit down and write when they are told to, whether they feel inspired or not. This series of four books is a toolkit to help you build a positive framework for children to read, write, understand and enjoy poetry - to bring a creative spark to the poetry classroom. A combination of featured poems, creative ideas, structured lesson plans and differentiated photocopiable activity sheets gives the series a uniquely flexible approach - which means you can use the materials in any classroom context. If you're wary of poetry, if you think it's boring, or if you're nervous about teaching poetry, then you've chosen the right book. Key themes covered in BOOK 1: Words and Wordplay are playing with words; making patterns with words; words and meanings; puns and puzzles; how words affect readers; moods, feelings and attitudes; and how poets manipulate words. Other books in the series are: BOOK 2: Rhymes, Rhythms and Rattles; BOOK 3: Style, Shape and Structure; and BOOK 4: Language and Performance.

Last night it was in tip-top shape, but not it's a big mish-mash." With those few words, things become not so ordinary after all, for it seems that Lulu has opened up a super-duper, helter-skelter WORD WARP. Luckily for Lulu and the rest of the English-speaking world, the school nurse has an idea about how to handle this hodge-podge of topsy-turvy chit-chat. Will it work? Harvey Kurtzman's Jungle Book is widely regarded as one of the greatest comic books of all time, and was voted into the 'Top 100 Comics of the 20th Century' by The Comics Journal. Written and illustrated by Kurtzman in 1959, Jungle Book takes a satirical swipe at the cultural monoliths of the day: detective shows, Western movies and the publishing industry in general. Equally unafraid to take on social issues, Kurtzman also satirises the lynch-hungry mobs still prevalent in the South, and the nascent rise of the Freudian movement within popular culture.
