Black Christian women are sisters: We are connected through our identity in Christ and a common history forged by the African Diaspora. These cultural and spiritual legacies not only strengthen us, but also present us with unique challenges to our health and wholeness. As daughters of the Diaspora, we encounter negative stereotypes and denigrating images imposed upon us by others. As Christians, we can be tempted to overspiritualize our lives to the detriment of our wholeness. These realities can leave us merely surviving our fragmented lives, when in reality, we want to blossom! Well, Blossoming Hope: The Black Christian Woman's Guide to Mental Health and Wellness was written to help do just that. As a licensed psychologist, minister, and seminary administrator, Dr. Tonya Armstrong attends in Blossoming Hope to the need to transcend everyday stressors, difficulties of the past, and even mental health challenges to reach the highest purpose for which God created us. By taking seriously the cultural and spiritual identities of Black Christian women, Dr. Armstrong addresses the unique challenges of Black women and provides practical resources that promote wholeness. Using the transformative tools of psychoeducation, vignettes of Black Christian women living with mental illness, inspirational music, spoken word exercises, and a wealth of spiritual, mental health, and wellness resources, Dr. Armstrong guides us toward optimal functioning in mind, spirit, body, and soul. In short, Blossoming Hope equips you for full blossoming, firmly planted in the God of our hope.

He is everything she fears… In a last, desperate attempt to escape her horribly abusive stepfather, beautiful and frightened, Angeline Maxwell has no choice but to bend to her aunt’s will and sacrifice herself in marriage to the mysteriously absent Laird Ethan McCutcheon Carroll. Mere hours after the wedding ceremony is concluded by proxy, however, Angeline is informed of her husband’s untimely death. For nigh onto a year, she experiences a peaceful, man-free, fear-free existence that she had never imagined possible. But now her husband is back…and very much alive! She is everything he cannot have… Long-believed-dead, a weary and battered, Ethan McCutcheon Carroll returns home to the highlands of Scotland, intent upon reclaiming his rightful place as Laird of his clan. But home is not the way he left it. Ethan had never imagined that he would be forced to convince his own people that he is indeed alive and not some demon just risen from the devil’s hiding place—nor that this would turn out to be the very least of his problems. By his own fierce vow, he remains a man alone…unwed and without heir. So what is he to do with a wee lass of a wife, who is obviously just as terrified of him, as he is of himself…? Ahhh, but the Queen...what power she holds, to wed a man when he is not even present for the event.

The devotional Daily Triumph features at least one message from each book of the Bible. Also included is Ruth; the book of redemption and Colossians; the book telling of Christ as the supreme and all-sufficient one. Besides this you will find eighteen devotional messages on the work of the Holy Spirit inter-mingled throughout. Finally, each devotional features "Today's Hymn." This is the title of a hymn so that you can reflect on the song. Read through it, give it some thought, and may the Lord use it to put a song in your heart. Jeff Pepper was born and raised in Sterling, Illinois. After graduating from high school, and going out on his own to earn a living, he started attending church. He did not attend regularly though, because the church he tried did not seem to line up with what he read in his Bible at home. While working at his place of employment a man was hired that talked to him about spiritual things. This man invited him to visit the church he went to; which was Faith Baptist Church in Sterling, Illinois. This church preached the truth of God's Word. Therefore, after attending for about a year he realized this was indeed what he had been seeking. So in July of 1978 he accepted Christ as his Savior, and went on to serve faithfully there. He later married and started raising a family. He, his wife Sheila, and daughters Janna and Michelle now reside in Shannon, Illinois, In April of 2001 the Lord laid on his heart a burden to put together a devotional book using messages from pastors, evangelists, missionaries, Christian educators, and others in full-time Christian service. Now, almost ten years later this devotional is here.

2024 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Silver Award Winner for Inspirational Based on the sermon series that garnered top honors from Yale Divinity School, Finding Joy on Death Row is the powerful story of a broken preacher’s transformative experience learning about joy from Death Row prisoners, combined with dramatic handwritten responses from more than twenty men currently sentenced to die. In Finding Joy on Death Row: Unexpected Lessons from Lives We Discarded, Williams journeys into the hearts and minds of those sentenced to death, illuminating for readers the ways in which the human spirit can suffer—and soar. Finding Joy on Death Row includes dozens of handwritten statements from those facing capital punishment. The testimonies and contemplations of those sentenced to die offer readers a unique opportunity to hear from individuals whose lives are marked by their looming execution. And yet these prisoners have—in the midst of grim circumstances—managed to find joy. As Williams serves and shepherds these prisoners, their own stories are unveiled. Williams’s account of ministering within North Carolina’s prison system and the handwritten statements are punctuated by glimpses into the author’s own broken past. This important work will show readers the power of joy to reach us all, the free and imprisoned alike. Finding Joy on Death Row: - Offers a glimpse into the minds of those currently and formerly on Death Row - Presents the effects of the death penalty not only on the incarcerated but on their loved ones as well - Examines Williams’s own experiences that gave him a unique understanding and empathy for those sentenced to death - Explores the very real possibility of finding joy despite outward circumstances - Includes online access to transcriptions of the prisoners’ responses as well as Pastor Williams’s original sermon series Unprecedented and revealing, Finding Joy on Death Row provides a window into the tragedies, hardships, and victories of those sentenced to die, ultimately offering readers the encouragement that we are all loved, forgiven, and capable of transformation.
