The Roots of Bitterness(It's time to dig a little deeper)#2 in the "Armed and Dangerous" series Most of my life I was resentful, bitter, angry, and flat out miserable. I suffered for a long time just trying to understand why I had such a chip on my shoulder and an unforgiving attitude. At times I seemed almost hateful and at war with the world. I just couldn't get a grip on what was wrong with me. When I turned to God for help, a certain number of issues began to surface. THE ROOT: At two years of age my parents found out that I had been born crippled. This was the reason for my late development in motor skills. I could not walk at all. The only way for me to get around was to drag myself. After the discovery of the handicap, I was taken to a specialist who recommended corrective leg braces. These braces looked totally foreign to me and as I soon came to find out, to all of the children that I went to school with as well. Children can be so cruel to a child that is "different". Even though they didn't understand the need for the braces, it did not stop them from teasing, tormenting, and actually being violent to me. I soon developed an unusual amount of anger and animosity toward people. These disruptive behaviors I had as a child didn't end when I no longer needed the corrective braces. On the contrary, they seemed to ignite and turn into some other very damaging mind sets.I repressed anger for a long period of time, and in doing so, I buried a lot of things that I did not want to deal with. I came to find out that when you burry something alive it does not die. It resurfaces when you least expect it. I had to dig up those old bitter roots and claim responsibility for my reactions. Shovel in hand, here we go...

Sara Hagerty masterfully draws from her own story of spiritual and physical barrenness to birth in readers a new longing for God. With exquisite storytelling and reflection, Hagerty guides readers to a tender place that God is holding just for them—a place where he shapes the bitterness of lost expectations into deep, new places of knowing Him. In the age of fingertip access to answers and a limitless supply of ambitions, where do we find the God who was birthed in dirt and straw? Sara Hagerty found him when life stopped working for her. She found him when she was a young adult mired in spiritual busyness and when she was a new bride with doubts about whether her fledgling marriage would survive. She found him alone in the night as she cradled her longing for babies who did not come. She found him as she kissed the faces of children on another continent who had lived years without a mommy’s touch. In Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet, Hagerty masterfully draws from the narrative of her life to craft a mosaic of a God who leans into broken stories. Here readers see a God who is present in every changing circumstance. Most significantly, they see a God who is present in every unchanging circumstance as well Whatever lost expectations readers are facing—in family, career, singleness, or marriage—Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet will bring them closer to a God who longs for them to know him more. What does it look like to know God’s nearness when life breaks? What does it mean to receive his life when earthly life remains barren? How can God turn the bitterness of unmet desire into new flavors of joy? With exquisite storytelling and reflection, Hagerty brings readers back to hope, back to healing, back to a place that God is holding for them alone—a place where the unseen is more real than what the eye can perceive. A place where every bitter thing is sweet.

Rejection is a painful experience. To be rejected is to feel disliked, disrespected and unwanted. I have been rejected many times. There are many times that I have felt disrespected, disliked and unwanted. It is not easy to go through rejection. And yet, most people will experience rejection as part of their journey in life. Someone said, " Before you are fully accepted, you must be rejected!" The patterns in the Bible and even history do reveal that most people were first rejected before they were fully accepted. Jesus Christ was rejected by the Jews before he was accepted as the Saviour of the world. Moses was similarly rejected by his people but was later accepted as the deliverer of Israel from the hands of the Egyptians. Samson was handed over and bound with ropes by his people but the later he was accepted. Disappointment, a poignant companion on our life's journey, is examined as a powerful catalyst for growth and self-discovery. Through the lens of personal experiences and the narratives of triumphs that emerged from setbacks, we uncover the hidden opportunities for improvement, regrouping, and the pursuit of aspirations that align more closely with our authentic selves. Bitterness on the other hand is the result of feeling rejected and disappointed. Bitterness, that lingering taste of resentment and unmet expectations, is confronted as both a test and a teacher. Acknowledging the discomfort it brings, we delve into the complexities of healing, drawing inspiration from the biblical account of Job and others who confronted bitterness and emerged stronger on the other side. As we navigate the pages of this book, let us recognize that rejections, disappointments, and bitterness are not mere hurdles to overcome but integral components of life's mosaic. These emotions contribute depth, color, and texture to our individual narratives, shaping us into resilient beings capable of embracing the full spectrum of human experience. May this book serve as a guide, offering insights, comfort, and inspiration to those traversing their own intricate tapestries. Together, let us embrace the challenges, celebrate the triumphs, and weave a narrative that reflects the resilience, wisdom, and profound beauty that arise from navigating life's mosaic.

Summer 1989, deep in the English countryside — during a time of mass unemployment, class war, and rebellion . . . . Over the course of a burning hot summer, two very different men — Calvert, an ex-soldier traumatized by his experience in the Falklands War, and his affable freind Redbone — set out nightly in a decrepit camper van to undertake an extraordinary project. Under cover of darkness, they traverse the fields of rural England in secret, forming crop circles in elaborate and mysterious patterns, painstakingly avoiding damaging the wheat to yield designs so intricate that their overnight appearances inspire awe amongst a mystified public. And as the summer wears on, and their designs grow ever more ambitious, the two men find that their work has become a cult international sensation—and that an unlikely and beautiful friendship has taken root as the wheat ripens from green to gold. But as harvest-time beckons—and as media and the authorities begin to take too much interest in their work—Calvert and Redbone have to race against time to finish the most stunning and original crop circle ever conceived: the Honeycomb Double Helix. Moving and exhilarating, tender and slyly witty, The Perfect Golden Circle is a captivating novel about the futility of war, the descruction of the English countryside, class inequality — ower of beauty to heal trauma and fight power.
