Automorphism groups of Riemann surfaces have been widely studied for almost 150 years. This area has persisted in part because it has close ties to many other topics of interest such as number theory, graph theory, mapping class groups, and geometric and computational group theory. In recent years there has been a major revival in this area due in part to great advances in computer algebra systems and progress in finite group theory. This volume provides a concise but thorough introduction for newcomers to the area while at the same time highlighting new developments for established researchers. The volume starts with two expository articles. The first of these articles gives a historical perspective of the field with an emphasis on highly symmetric surfaces, such as Hurwitz surfaces. The second expository article focuses on the future of the field, outlining some of the more popular topics in recent years and providing 78 open research problems across all topics. The remaining articles showcase new developments in the area and have specifically been chosen to cover a variety of topics to illustrate the range of diversity within the field.

This Mathematical imagery book, is a show case for the ubiquity of Mathematics, Mathematics learning and doing Mathematics. The book contains painstakingly crafted images that look like beautiful natural phenomena which we see in the outside world and yet all are generated by Mathematical formulas. The author therefore concludes that all things we see in nature have Mathematical expressions that describe them. The book is therefore a visual eye opener for those who need to appreciate, learn, do and see a different and artistic side of Mathematics. Few of the images are posted in the imagery section of the American Mathematical Society's web site. The book is suitable for almost all people including parents, students, teachers, artists, engineers, scientists, Mathematicians and others. The author invites you a tour in to a museum of Mathematical images in which super symmetric images are abundantly presented.

"Shoe Obsession examined our cultures ever-growing fascination with extravagant and fashionable shoes. Accessories used to be just that--secondary to clothing fashions. Today, however, shoes have become the main fashion story, replacing the It bag as the most desirable accessory. High-heeled shoes--the fashion shoes of the 21st century--have become so tall that even a 4-inch heel is considered low. Shoe Obsession featured over 150 examples of the most extraordinary shoe styles of the 21st-century, highlighting the new concepts, constructions, materials, and types of embellishment that have positioned shoes at the height of fashion"--Museum at FIT web site

Communism was destroyed not from without, but from within-by a persistent failure to make its economic theories work in practice. But what exactly did go wrong with its central planning? Until the last moment, top western economists claimed that Communism was superior to western models. Even now, centralized Marxist planning retains its admirers, especially among the young. With the benefit of new archival research, we can finally grasp how falsified and manipulated statistics blindfolded Communist governments and confused western leaders, leading to staggering errors of judgement. Both sides believed that East Germany had a stronger economy than West Germany; that North Korea would overtake South Korea; that Mao's China was a paradise for its starving peasants. Those who warned that a dearth of reliable economic data would condemn central planning to irrational misallocation of investment and labor were ignored or belittled. But, ultimately, they were vindicated. Jasper Becker answers the big question: what accounts for the fall of Communism in the Soviet Union, China and everywhere else? And why don't present debates acknowledge that failure? This unconventional history of Communism and the Cold War explains why the same old clash of theories is continuing to shape the world today.
