An encyclopedia of Tennessee genealogy, Acklen's "Bible Records and Marriage Bonds" is one of the foremost Tennessee source-books in print. It consists almost entirely of records of births, marriages, and deaths, plus marriage licenses of Dickson, Knox, Lebanon, and Wilson counties. Sections devoted exclusively to marriages generally run chronologically, giving exact dates and full names of brides and grooms. The bible records, however, offer the most substantial evidence of family connections and, in the manner of such records, are actually organic family records listing names and dates of birth, marriage, and death through several generations, depending, of course, on the extent to which a particular bible was handed on in the family and kept up to date. The work is complemented by a surname index of nearly 15,000 entries.

Dr. Klein has recorded tombstone inscriptions from eighty family cemeteries, twenty-five church cemeteries, and several small proprietary cemeteries in King George County, Virginia. The result is this enumeration, giving the dates of birth and death and frequently specifying the family relationships of approximately 1,500 persons. The recorded inscriptions are limited, by and large, to persons who either died before 1900 or were born before 1850.

The major part of this work is an alphabetically arranged and cross-indexed list of some 20,000 Maryland families with references to the sources and locations of the records in which they appear. In addition, there is a research record guide arranged by county and type of record, and it identifies all genealogical manuscripts, books, and articles known to exist up to 1940, when this book was first published. Included are church and county courthouse records, deeds, marriages, rent rolls, wills, land records, tombstone inscriptions, censuses, directories, and other data sources.

Who's Your Hoosier Ancestor is written by a Hoosier genealogist for Hoosiers and for the descendants of anyone who ever lived in Indiana. Mona Robinson provides methods for locating elusive ancestors, describing what records are available to the Indiana researcher, where they can be found, and how to use them most effectively. Robinson details the many usual and unusual sources that can be employed in genealogical searches—histories, atlases, directories, maps, and sources found in the home. She offers helpful hints and clues, explains the value of each type of record and the problems associated with using it. Valid sources, documentation, primary and secondary sources, and the many avenues of research are all detailed in this book, written especially for Hoosier ancestor hunters.
