In this richly collaborative work, five distinguished scholars examine the oft-neglected embodied practical wisdom that is essential for true theological understanding and faithful Christian living. After first showing what Christian practical wisdom is and does in several real-life situations, the authors tell why such practical wisdom matters and how it operates, exploring reasons behind its decline in both the academy and the church and setting forth constructive cases for its renewal.

Divided into three sectionsRemembering Wisdom, Unsettling Wisdom, and Inciting Wisdomthe book presents narratives of leadership experiences in the fields of social activism, parish ministry, teaching, U.S. Army chaplaincy, religious history, Christian denominational work, theology, nonprofit organization, theological social ethics, clinical spiritual care education in healthcare systems, and community organizing. Adult development and learning have always existed as two separate fields of study, with development falling under psychology and learning under education. Recent advances in theory, research, and practice, however, have made it clear that an important reciprocal relationship exists between them: advances in development frequently lead to learning, and conversely, learning quite often fuels development. The synchronicity between development and learning is responsible for positive changes in many capacities, including insight, intelligence, reflective and meta-cognition, personality expression, interpersonal competence, and self-efficacy. This synchronicity is also leading to the growth of a new discipline at the borders of adult development and learning. The Handbook of Adult Development and Learning is the first to bring together the leading scholars from both adult development and learning to explore what will form the foundation for this new discipline--the latest research at the intersection of these fields. It examines six major aspects of their intersection: foundations, key areas of integration, the self system, higher reaches of development and learning, essential contexts, and specific applications. An introductory chapter explains why it is so important to recognize and fuel the growth of this new discipline. Subsequent chapters review the latest theoretical and empirical literature and provide a rich itinerary for future research. This handbook is a must-read for all who promote optimal aging. It will be an invaluable reference for scholars in development and education, as well as rich resource for policy makers and practitioners, such as corporate executives and human-resource personnel.

In all of my years fishing, I've recognized that most of bass fishing's intelligentsia tends to focus on the bass and its behaviors to teach the angler how to better catch them. While this is important, too little time is devoted to helping the angler to understand the angler, and his/her responsibilities toward success. Anglers must have a better understanding of the limitations and governing factors of the sport, and of the common sense truths that promote the development of an indestructible confidence needed to execute the demands of fishing. Do you find that confidence in your bass angling skills is erratically elusive? Whether you're a seriously devoted tournament angler or an aspiring novice, every bass angler experiences this universal problem. And there are very specific and justifiable reasons for it. Fishing with Confidence addresses these reasons, and lights the way to more prosperous and confident fishing. Fishing with Confidence goes beyond the over exemplified and often redundant 'tips and techniques, ' and in groundbreaking fashion tells the story of bass fishing straight. Author John Mark Warren uses reasoned and sound fishing principles, his 35 years of insight, the wisdom and truth from professional anglers, and an exposure of a market driven media to create a template that ensures lasting self confidence in every aspiring and passionate bass angler. John has faced the challenges that every serious angler faces. His uncompromising standard of truth and accuracy shines a new light on just what makes good anglers more proficient and confident anglers. So, when you are done looking for manufactured remedies at your local bait shop, try honing your craft with Fishing with Confidence. 'Need to know everything that you need to know about bass fishing in order to return home grinning, and not grouching? In Leading With Wisdom, Jann Freed takes the several years she spent interviewing more than 100 respected leaders, and distills their advice into eight practices that underpin leaders who connect and inspire others to achieve high performance. She takes the words of heavyweights such as Warren Bennis, Peter Senge, Stephen Covey, Marshall Goldsmith, Peter Block, and Margaret Wheatley, and presents their insights on what works and what doesn’t. Each chapter concludes with a practical application section that details ways to integrate the concepts into workshops and personal development. Use the workshop and personal development suggestions to apply the eight practices into your daily life. Learn from the words and personal stories of highly respected leaders. Integrate the best of yourself and your life into your daily tasks and roles. This book is for anyone in a position of influence in an organization, or those who train these individuals. It’s also for those who feel they are drowning in information, but starving for wisdom about what behaviors nurture people, organizations, and communities at large. Discussing her research process with these experts, Jann says, "When I asked about leadership—they told me about life." This book helps leaders integrate the best of themselves and their lives into the tasks and roles of leaders.
