One of the bestselling books in the field, Introduction to Fluid Mechanics continues to provide readers with a balanced and comprehensive approach to mastering critical concepts. The new seventh edition once again incorporates a proven problem-solving methodology that will help them develop an orderly plan to finding the right solution. It starts with basic equations, then clearly states assumptions, and finally, relates results to expected physical behavior. Many of the steps involved in analysis are simplified by using Excel.

The present book – through the topics and the problems approach – aims at filling a gap, a real need in our literature concerning CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). Our presentation results from a large documentation and focuses on reviewing the present day most important numerical and computational methods in CFD. Many theoreticians and experts in the field have expressed their - terest in and need for such an enterprise. This was the motivation for carrying out our study and writing this book. It contains an important systematic collection of numerical working instruments in Fluid Dyn- ics. Our current approach to CFD started ten years ago when the Univ- sity of Paris XI suggested a collaboration in the field of spectral methods for fluid dynamics. Soon after – preeminently studying the numerical approaches to Navier–Stokes nonlinearities – we completed a number of research projects which we presented at the most important inter- tional conferences in the field, to gratifying appreciation. An important qualitative step in our work was provided by the dev- opment of a computational basis and by access to a number of expert softwares. This fact allowed us to generate effective working programs for most of the problems and examples presented in the book, an - pect which was not taken into account in most similar studies that have already appeared all over the world.

This book provides a comprehensive and wide-ranging introduction to fluid mechanics, assuming only a basic knowledge of calculus and physics. Introduces fluid mechanics within the context of a broad range of topics and disciplines by combining elements and concepts from different disciplines as is often found in solutions to engineering problems. The book integrates a discussion of fluid flow phenomena with that of other subjects, such as Solid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, and others. It also includes discussions of other fields of specialization often used to solve engineering problems, such as chemistry, biology, economics, sociology, and others. And, it integrates the use of computers and modern experimental techniques. The first edition of Introduction to Fluid Mechanics provides a unique thematic organization and divides the material into three sections: Theory. This section is divided into four categories: Introduction, Conservation Laws, Fluid Kinematics, and Fluid Dynamics. Analysis. In this section, procedures such as Dimensionless Analysis, Analytics, Experimental and Numerical Solutions are introduced and applied to fundamental problems. Special Topics. Topics such as ideal, invisicid flow, compressible flow, and dynamics of rotating fluids are reserved for separate chapters. The book also introduces ideas from computational and experimental fluid mechanics. An essential reference for all engineering professionals.

BASIC Fluid Mechanics combines the application of BASIC programming with fluid mechanics. Topics covered in this book include the fundamentals of the BASIC computer language, properties of fluids, fluid statics, kinematics, and conservation of energy. Force and momentum, viscous flow, flow measurement, and dimensional analysis and similarity are also considered. This book is comprised of nine chapters and begins with a brief introduction to the application of BASIC. The discussion then turns to the various properties of a fluid and the differences between fluids and solids. The chapters that follow explore fluid statics, kinematics, and conservation of energy. The Euler and Bernoulli equations that are used to express the principle of conservation of energy when applied to fluids are highlighted, and calculations for force and momentum are presented. The text also considers laminar flow between parallel plates and in circular tubes, as well as the techniques for measuring flow. The final chapter describes the principles of dimensional analysis and similarity methods. Worked examples developing programs for the solution of typical problems are provided at the end of each chapter. This monograph will be useful to students in an undergraduate program and practicing engineers who are attempting to get to grips with modern computational procedures.
