Middle Fork District lies in the extreme western part of Randolph next to Upshur and Webster. Only two tests for oil and gas have been drilled in the District. One of these is the Buckhannon Chemical Company No. 1 (90) Well, drilled by this company on its own land at Newlon on thv Buckhannon River, in the summer of 1913. The detailed record of this well, published as a part of the Newlon Section, page 155, shows neither oil nor gas, although the well was drilled to a depth of 1481 feet, and passed through many of the sands. The other test is a deep hole drilled subsequent to the completion of field work in the County. Only a light show of oil was found in what appears to be the Speechley Sand, the record of which follows: Mayton Lumber Co. No. 4903 Well Record (90A).
