Once a hunter of renegade mages, now he's the one being hunted. Silas and Lainie have defeated the dangerous rogue mage who brought Lainie's hometown to the brink of open warfare. But the town of Bitterbush Springs isn't big enough for two wizards, or even one, so they've hit the trail. Married now and on the wrong side of the mages' law themselves, they just want to find a good bounty and stay out of trouble. Then Silas gets word that another mage hunter down in the dry and desolate Bads is onto something big and needs backup. The money is good, and Silas can't turn down a fellow hunter in need, so he and Lainie head into the badlands, only to discover one mage hunter dead and another one missing. And if they can't find the killer hiding in the vast, trackless desert, Silas could be next. Join Silas and Lainie in an adventure filled with magic, danger, and romance and discover the wonders and mysteries of the Wildings in the epic romantic fantasy-western series Daughter of the Wildings. Content note: language, violence, and mild to moderate sensual content.

From the host of the Travel Channel’s “The Wild Within.” A hunt for the American buffalo—an adventurous, fascinating examination of an animal that has haunted the American imagination. In 2005, Steven Rinella won a lottery permit to hunt for a wild buffalo, or American bison, in the Alaskan wilderness. Despite the odds—there’s only a 2 percent chance of drawing the permit, and fewer than 20 percent of those hunters are successful—Rinella managed to kill a buffalo on a snow-covered mountainside and then raft the meat back to civilization while being trailed by grizzly bears and suffering from hypothermia. Throughout these adventures, Rinella found himself contemplating his own place among the 14,000 years’ worth of buffalo hunters in North America, as well as the buffalo’s place in the American experience. At the time of the Revolutionary War, North America was home to approximately 40 million buffalo, the largest herd of big mammals on the planet, but by the mid-1890s only a few hundred remained. Now that the buffalo is on the verge of a dramatic ecological recovery across the West, Americans are faced with the challenge of how, and if, we can dare to share our land with a beast that is the embodiment of the American wilderness. American Buffalo is a narrative tale of Rinella’s hunt. But beyond that, it is the story of the many ways in which the buffalo has shaped our national identity. Rinella takes us across the continent in search of the buffalo’s past, present, and future: to the Bering Land Bridge, where scientists search for buffalo bones amid artifacts of the New World’s earliest human inhabitants; to buffalo jumps where Native Americans once ran buffalo over cliffs by the thousands; to the Detroit Carbon works, a “bone charcoal” plant that made fortunes in the late 1800s by turning millions of tons of buffalo bones into bone meal, black dye, and fine china; and even to an abattoir turned fashion mecca in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, where a depressed buffalo named Black Diamond met his fate after serving as the model for the American nickel. Rinella’s erudition and exuberance, combined with his gift for storytelling, make him the perfect guide for a book that combines outdoor adventure with a quirky blend of facts and observations about history, biology, and the natural world. Both a captivating narrative and a book of environmental and historical significance, American Buffalo tells us as much about ourselves as Americans as it does about the creature who perhaps best of all embodies the American ethos.

From prominent outdoorsman and nature writer Mark Kenyon comes an engrossing reflection on the past and future battles over our most revered landscapes--America's public lands. Every American is a public-land owner, inheritor to the largest public-land trust in the world. These vast expanses provide a home to wildlife populations, a vital source of clean air and water, and a haven for recreation. Since its inception, however, America's public land system has been embroiled in controversy--caught in the push and pull between the desire to develop the valuable resources the land holds or conserve them. Alarmed by rising tensions over the use of these lands, hunter, angler, and outdoor enthusiast Mark Kenyon set out to explore the spaces involved in this heated debate, and learn firsthand how they came to be and what their future might hold. Part travelogue and part historical examination, That Wild Country invites readers on an intimate tour of the wondrous wild and public places that are a uniquely profound and endangered part of the American landscape.

Over the past thirteen years, New Labour has made us wade through a quagmire of petty rules, health and safety lunacies, madcap laws and nitpicking regulations. We have been snooped on, hectored and hounded by state nannies from cradle to grave, all because government and its agencies have nothing better to do than to interfere in our lives. It would not be so bad if the Government ran the country well, but we have to put up with high taxes, street crime, late and dirty trains, the unjustified and disproportionate use of fines and charges, bloody-minded parking restrictions, excessive public sector waste, preposterous European directives, useless and unaccountable council officials and multi-culturalist busybodies. In this explosive and groundbreaking new book, Philip Johnston makes a stand and exposes the 'Bad Laws', those irritating laws, regulations and Whitehall idiocies that make life in Britain the day-to-day nightmare that it is today. He covers the following laws amongst many others: The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (Ripa) or "snooper's charter", allows a wide range of government bodies and quangos to watch over people, check on what they are doing and monitor their communications. The Safeguarding Vulnerable People Act...which will require 11 million people working with children or the elderly to obtain a certificate allowing them to continue to do so yet will be easily evaded by those few individuals who are a danger to children. The Hunting Act. More foxes have died every year since the Act came into force. The Children Act. All 25,000 state and private nursery schools, child minders and playgroups are required to follow a new statutory framework dubbed the "nappy curriculum". Smoking Ban - It has interfered both with personal freedom and with commercial enterprise. Housing Act - which brought us Hips in the midst of a property price slump. European Arrest Warrant - which allows British citizens to be extradited to another jurisdiction to stand trial for an offence that is not a crime in the UK. Dangerous Dogs Act, which became synonymous with hasty and ill-thought-out legislation. Firearms Act which wiped out the sport and livelihoods of thousands of law abiding people. War Crimes Act, pushed through using the Parliament Act but which has resulted in not a single conviction. Religious Hatred Act which made a bad thought a crime. Numerous Health and safety laws of every description. The Licensing Act which made it an offence to play a piano in a pub without authorisation.

Hunting: Youve Got to Be Kidding! is my narrative of reaching a major milestone as a hunter. This documentation of my pursuit contains spiritual, financial, emotional, and sometimes humorous excerpts of my hunting career. Why do I hunt? Im pressed for an answer to this question daily because my lifes passion is on public display. Trophys Steakhouse, which Becky and I own, provides an atmosphere of exuberance and a forum to promote hunting. Museum would describe Trophys much closer than steak house, as the restaurant is enriched with the rewards of twenty years of successful trophy collection. Our customers are both hunters and nonhunters who appreciate the hunting theme and dont require an answer to the question. Invariably, I must provide a detailed explanation to a select few as to why I havent changed from a hunter-gatherer to the modern rendition of a man. My respect for wild animals complicates my answer. Our genetic engineering by God places us as masters of animal and plant life, both of whom are alive and function to nourish us. Therefore, my answer is because I am pursuing a bred-in instinct to hunt and gather as our ancestors did for a millennium. I am proud to have this genetic makeup. I continue to preserve Gods creatures by being part of the hunting community. Hunters generously contribute time and money to increase habitat for wild animals while at the same time protect hunters rights. I have achieved my hunting goals because of the contributions of hunters!
