Ultrasound has replaced X-ray as the main imaging modality for the diagnosis of pelvic floor disorders in women. It now enables a cost-effective and non-invasive demonstration of bladder neck and pelvic organ mobility, vaginal, urethral and levator ani function and anatomy, and anorectal anatomy. Atlas of Pelvic Floor Ultrasound provides an introduction to pelvic floor imaging as well as a resource to be used during initial and more advanced practice.

This new edition provides the most up to date, state-of-the art review of current literature which provides an introduction to pelvic floor imaging, as well as a resource to be used during initial and more advanced practice. The book features new chapters on Vaginal mesh imaging, ultrasound of implanted material, pelvic floor trauma, and ultrasound in pelvic floor therapy. The reader will gain competence in performing transperineal, endovaginal and endoanal 3D/4D ultrasound evaluation of the pelvic floor including anal sphincter and levator ani complex. The text provides a basic understanding of how to perform a transperineal, an endovaginal and endoanal pelvic floor ultrasound and use the desktop 3D/4D softwares to obtain basic measurements. Concise textual information from acknowledged experts is complemented by high-quality diagrams and images to provide a thorough update of this rapidly evolving field. Introductory chapters fully elucidate the anatomical basis underlying disorders of the pelvic floor, followed by 1) 3D/4D transperineal imaging, 2) 3D endovaginal imaging of the urethra and the bladder, Levator ani muscles, the anorectal area, and 3) 3D endoanal imaging. Measurement protocols and case reviews are demonstrated at the conclusion. Written entirely by experts in their fields, the second edition of Practical Pelvic Floor Ultrasonography: A Multicompartmental Approach to 2D/3D/4D Ultrasonography of the Pelvic Floor is a comprehensive resource that will be of great value to urogynecologists, colorectal surgeons, obstetrician and gynecologists, female urologists, ultrasonographers, radiologists, physiotherapists, as well as fellows in urogynecology and colorectal surgery. /div

Imaging is now central to the investigation and management of anorectal and pelvic floor disorders. This has been brought about by technical developments in imaging, notably, three-dimensional ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which allow high anatomical resolution and tissue differentiation to be presented in a most usable fashion. Three-dimensional endosonography in anorectal conditions and MRI in anal fistula are two obvious developments, but there are others, with dynamic st- ies of the pelvic floor using both ultrasound and MRI coming to the fore. This atlas provides an easy way to gain a detailed understanding of imaging in this field. The atlas is divided into four sections covering the basic anatomy, anal/perianal disease, rectal/perirectal disease and functional assessment. One of the difficulties with developing an atlas is to strike the right balance - tween text and images. Too much text and it is not an atlas; too little text and the - ages may not be understood. The editors of this atlas are to be congratulated on achi- ing an appropriate balance. The images are all that one expects from an atlas, and the diagrams are excellent. The commentaries at the end of invited chapters are a valuable addition, placing what are relatively short, focussed chapters into context. They add balance and depth to the work and are well worth reading.

There is increasing interest in using ultrasound for assessment of pelvic floor disorders such as voiding dysfunction , pelvic organ prolapse and faecal incontinence. Ultrasound can also be a useful imaging modality for urodynamics and pelvic floor physiotherapy. Whilst ultrasound equipment is widely available around the world many clinicians may not have access to structured training in the technique of pelvic floor imaging and interpretation of images in the context of pelvic floor dysfunction. This book aims to provide the reader with the knowledge and skills to start utilising ultrasound imaging in assessment of pelvic floor disorders. The authors comprise the three surgical disciplines (urology, colorectal surgery and gynaecology) who commonly manage pelvic floor problems and have subspecialty expertise in pelvic floor imaging. They have conducted workshops in Australia, Asia, UK and USA and are advocates for clinican-performed ultrasound.

Ultrasonography is a cornerstone in the evaluation of gynecologic disease. This authoritative new book looks at the techniques of ultrasonography in both office and hospital settings, offering guidance on the optimal use of equipment and covering the full range of benign and malignant gynecologic disease as well as infertility. Ultrasonography in Gynecology offers extensive coverage of the diagnostic potential of ultrasound in gynecologic disease, from the moment the patient walks into the physician's office. All the different approaches in the ultrasonographic evaluation of disease – including 3D ultrasonography, 3D sonohysterography, Doppler imaging and pelvic floor imaging – are extensively covered, with color images throughout. Written and edited by leaders in the field of ultrasonography who have actively participated in national and international teaching courses, Ultrasonography in Gynecology is a must for all gynecologists dealing with infertility, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, gynecologic cancers, and many more gynecologic conditions.

Biomechanical Mapping of the Female Pelvic Floor explores new technological advances in women’s healthcare intended to improve pelvic floor characterization, diagnosis and prediction of treatment outcomes. The book describes biomechanical approaches and clinical examples to demonstrate how one can evaluate the changes in the pelvic floor to gain a better understanding of an individual patient’s pelvic floor dysfunctions, such as prolapse, incontinence, chronic pelvic pain, and even conditions leading to spontaneous preterm delivery and predicting maternal birth trauma. This book is a valuable resource for researchers focused on gynecology, urogynecology or obstetrics, clinicians, graduate students and biomedical scientists and bioengineers who need to better understand the technological advances in biomechanical characterization and how they can be used not only for diagnosis but also for monitoring several OBGYN-related conditions. Discusses the most recent advances in the field of biomechanical characterization of soft tissues, pelvic support and function, including different applications of tactile imaging, ultrasound and magnetic resonance elastography Explores new diagnostic devices and techniques, mathematical models and simulations to address preoperative assessment and prediction of pelvic surgery outcomes and delivery Presents reviews of the results of multiple clinical studies with the biomechanical mapping of human tissues and organs to provide comprehensive information on the subject and determine future directions in the field

Posterior Pelvic Floor Abnormalities, by Tracy Hull, MD, is the ideal way to enhance your surgical skills in this key area of gynecology, obstetrics, and urology. In this volume in the Female Pelvic Surgery Video Atlas Series, edited by Mickey Karram, MD, detailed discussions and illustrations, case studies, and video footage clarify how to most effectively perform a variety of procedures and manage complications. Supplemental video presentations take you step by step through procedures including laparoscopic resection rectopexy, episioproctotomy, defecography with sigmoidocele, and more. Case-based presentations and videos, narrated by the authors, take you step-by-step through a variety of procedures including laparoscopic resection rectopexy, episioproctotomy, defecography with sigmoidocele, ultrasound, and more. Highly illustrated, quick-reference chapters discuss all of the possible diagnoses for which each procedure is indicated. Case studies describe the clinical history surrounding each case featured in the videos. An overview of how the entire pelvis functions as a unit helps illustrate the importance of a multidisciplinary, team approach in diagnosing and treating abnormalities. Authoritative, step-by-step visual guidance for the treatment of posterior pelvic floor disorders
