My ascension through blood and tears to become Saanire Aurelia Rior didn't matter--I felt like an imposter walking into the gathering of Rior, like a child playing dress-up with powers I hadn't grown into yet. As autumn fades to bitter winter, Aurelia is running out of time to follow Lucien, Aamon, and the others to the distant northern mountains where the long-lost Rior sanctuary lies hidden. An ethereal beast and dangerous storms bar the way . . . but so does the shard of memory lodged in Aurelia's heart. Reliving her mother's murder, she now sees herself rotting before her own eyes, unable to sleep, unable to focus her riore. When she finally reaches the secluded valley, the truth of why the Rior have stayed hidden for a millennium is worse than anything she could have imagined. Aurelia must use her forbidden blood and the powers that come with it to save those she loves, right ancient wrongs, and close the wound that has plagued Iyarri society since the Night of Bloody Feathers.

Reckoning with History brings together original essays from a diverse group of historians who consider how writing about the past can engage with the urgent issues of the present. The contributors—all former students of the distinguished Columbia University historian Eric Foner—explore the uses and politics of history through key episodes across a wide range of struggles for freedom. They shed new light on how different groups have defined and fought for freedom throughout American history, as well as the ways in which the ideal of freedom remains unrealized today. Covering a broad range of topics, these essays offer insight into how historians practice their craft in different ways and illuminate what it means to be a socially and politically engaged historian.

Virgil, a fallen soul sent to walk amongst man, must battle a host of deadly foes. From the lowlife criminals of the under city, a smog choked pit isolated from the more civilized parts of Desolo Angelus, to the deepest circle of Hell, he finds himself drawn into an ancient war that has cast a shadow over his entire existence. Now faced with the most terrifying foes in biblical history, he must not only fight the horrifying Nephilim, but must also battle the sins of his past to assume the title of Godsend. Daunting as his task may seem, he is aided by Raphael, one of the oldest and wisest beings to descend from the heavens, Zophiel, a lesser angel, one with a blistering attitude, and Legion, a horrifying creature sent from the pits of Hell, as well as many other members of the celestial host. But not all is as it seems, and soon Virgil finds friend and foe to be objective terms, as his nemesis becomes his greatest ally, so does his employer, become one of his greatest foes. After fighting Gabriel on the very top of Satan's head in Hell to assume his rightful role in the Oraculum, Virgil finds himself returned to earth, where the Nephilim have already risen and laid waste to the world, destroying most of the things Virgil held dear.He must fight through the riddles of an over educated spider, the ruins of a decimated civilization, and the deceptions of the firstborn to meet his enemy in combat, and return the world to it's rightful place, or perish at the hands of Dante, the embodiment of the apocalypse.

Celestial fundamental catalogues are a prerequisite for the determination of absolute positions and motions in space. Presently, positional astrometry is at the watershed between classical fundamental catalogues, based on moving reference stars, and modern catalogues, based on extragalactic reference objects with non-measurable motion. This book addresses the concepts and methods of the respective construction techniques leading to the stellar frame of the FK5 (fifth fundamental catalogue) and to the newly adopted extragalactic radio reference frame, ICRF (international celestial reference frame), with its extension to optical wavelengths by the Hipparcos Catalogue. While principal outlines of meridian circle observations are given, emphasis is put in some detail on the VLBI technique as applied to astrometry, and to the observational techniques used in the Hipparcos mission, including the tie of the originally non-anchored rigid Hipparcos sphere into the ICRF.
