A collection of feminist essays steeped in “Solnit’s unapologetically observant and truth-speaking voice on toxic, violent masculinity” (The Los Angeles Review). In a timely and incisive follow-up to her national bestseller Men Explain Things to Me, Rebecca Solnit offers sharp commentary on women who refuse to be silenced, misogynistic violence, the fragile masculinity of the literary canon, the gender binary, the recent history of rape jokes, and much more. In characteristic style, “Solnit draw[s] anecdotes of female indignity or male aggression from history, social media, literature, popular culture, and the news . . . The main essay in the book is about the various ways that women are silenced, and Solnit focuses upon the power of storytelling—the way that who gets to speak, and about what, shapes how a society understands itself and what it expects from its members. The Mother of All Questions poses the thesis that telling women’s stories to the world will change the way that the world treats women, and it sets out to tell as many of those stories as possible” (The New Yorker). “There’s a new feminist revolution—open to people of all genders—brewing right now and Rebecca Solnit is one of its most powerful, not to mention beguiling, voices.”—Barbara Ehrenreich, New York Times–bestselling author of Natural Causes “Short, incisive essays that pack a powerful punch.” —Publishers Weekly “A keen and timely commentary on gender and feminism. Solnit’s voice is calm, clear, and unapologetic; each essay balances a warm wit with confident, thoughtful analysis, resulting in a collection that is as enjoyable and accessible as it is incisive.” —Booklist

Join Rick Warren, pastor and New York Times bestselling author, as he invites us to take a closer look at key biblical figures and the ways in which they faced difficult questions and challenges in their daily lives. In God's Answers to Life's Difficult Questions, Warren uses stories from scripture to teach us that the Bible is filled with examples of real people who faced the same dilemmas we're facing today. By demonstrating the ways in which God chooses to use ordinary people to accomplish his plans--despite their weaknesses and failures--Warren gives us hope as we take on life's countless challenges. Better yet, Warren provides us with realistic solutions that we can start putting into practice today. Taking us inside the lives of biblical characters including Moses, Paul, and Jesus himself, Warren gives us a chance to see the up-close-and-personal ways they navigated their own circumstances. How can I respond better in a crisis? How do I become more resilient when I feel like a failure? How can I fight my loneliness? How is change possible for me? How can I lead a more peaceful life? The concrete, practical insights that Warren shares in God's Answers to Life's Difficult Questions will give you the tools you need to build up your resilience, strengthen your relationship with God, and finally enjoy a life full of lasting purpose, peace, and significance.

Deep down, every human being craves answers to life's fundamental questions: 1. Origin: where did I come from? 2. Meaning: why am I here on this earth -- does my life matter? 3. Wholeness: how can I feel peace, joy, and completeness amidst suffering? 4. Hope: will things get better here on earth? What happens when I die? We may pretend we do not care about answering these questions. Or we may occupy and dull our minds -- playing video games, binge-watching Netflix, or endlessly scrolling Instagram -- so that we do not have to ponder them too often. But those that have not answered these questions will be haunted by them. They will plague us when we can't sleep at night, or they will gnaw at us when we feel depressed. For those that are somehow able to ward off these questions, there will come a day when one realizes they must be answered immediately. This sense of urgency will be caused by a cancer diagnosis, a car accident, a pandemic, or some other tragedy. This book will help you avoid this moment of metaphysical crisis by facilitating an inquiry into the veracity of the Christian faith.

Since the start of time, man has been searching for ways to live a productive and meaningful life. Everyone goes through this thought process, either consciously or subconsciously. The key to finding that answer is to begin asking the right questions. A great starting point for asking the right questions is a question I asked myself thirty years ago. That question was, What are my core values, principles, or beliefs? In other words, what is truly important to me. I simplified that question to this--What do I believe? Going through answering that question led to the creation of my personal I Believe list. This was by far one of the most meaningful and life-changing experiences in my life. My only regret is I didn't ask that question till I was forty-four. Regardless of your age, asking the question (What do I believe?) and creating your personal I Believe list will be one of the most important questions and activities you can do to position yourself to living the productive and meaningful life we all long for. The Question: A Guide to Answering Life's Most Important Question shares my journey of answering that question and then how I used my responses to guide me on each day's adventure called life.
