Excerpt from Sixth Annual Report to the Legislature, Relating to the Registry and Returns of Births, Marriages and Deaths in Massachusetts: For the Year Ending April 30th, 1847 The number of the Births, Marriages and Deaths returned from the several towns is, in the first place, exhibited in full, with the population of the towns according to the census of 1840, and a recapitulation of the same classes of facts, summed up according to counties (pp. 3 In another column, for purposes of com parison, are given the returns of the two preceding years. The last returns of Births, Marriages and Deaths are more full than those of either of the previous years. The number of Births re turned, is as 1 to 34 inhabitants (according to the census of excluding the population of Boston; the number of Marriages, as 1 to 114, and of Deaths, as 1 to 54. The returns of births from Bradford and Rockport, in Essex county, were made too late to be incorporated into the tables; as they were received before the printing was begun, they are entered in their place on page 3. Returns of 11 births and 1 marriage were received this day from Norwich, in Hampshire county. Extracts from the communications of the town-clerks are pre sented, as heretofore, in the body of notes appended to the synopsis of returns (pp. 12 The towns which failed to make returns are specified at the end of the notes, under the heads of the several counties.
