Excerpt from Annual Report of the Town of Newmarket, New Hampshire, by the Selectmen, Town Clerk, Tax Collector, Town Treasurer, Water Works, Public Library, Trustees of Trust Funds, Planning Board: For the Year Ending December 31, 1978; With the Vital Statistics for 1978 The Selectmen respectfully submit to the citizens of the Town of Newmarket a summary of some of the projects that have achieved fruition and a few reflee tions on the past year. Through a strong effort by all Town Commissions, Committees, and Boards, along with a successful Town Meeting, a modest but positive reduction in the town's tax rate was achieved, leveling at assessed valuation. A special well done to the Budget Committee is in order. We are pleased to report your new Public Works building is near completion and formal occupancy is expected soon. Utilizing the Town Road Aid Program, further resurfacing and straightening of Bay Road has been accomplished and it is anticipated completion of this project will occur sometime this summer. Negotiations for the ambulance garage on Gerry Avenue have been successfully completed and await your decision regarding purchase. Upon the retirement of Richman Walker who served the public unselfishly for nearly twenty-five years, we were pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Earl Brill of Holden, Maine as the Town of Newmarket's new Public Works Superintendent. Two events of historic significance occurred in the Town of Newmarket in 1978 the One Hundredth Anniversary of Saint Mary Church Parish and the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Newmarket Community Church were celebrated. We salute and thank both churches for their many years of service to the town. In 1979 we look forward to even more citizen participation on various committees, commissions and boards and therefore urge you to add your name to the volunteer list at the Town Office should you have a particular talent or interest you wish to share with all of us.
