Excerpt from Annual Report of the Minnesota State Horticultural Society, Vol. 18: For the Year 1890, Embracing the Transactions of the Society From March 31, 1889, to March 31, 1890, Also Proceedings of the Annual Meeting of the Minnesota Bee Keepers Association, Essays, Reports, Etc This Society shall be known as the Minnesota State Horticultural Society. Article II. Object Of The Society. The object of this Society shall be to improve the condition of pomology, horticulture and arboriculture, by collecting and disseminating correct information concerning the culture of such fruits, flowers, trees and other productions in horticulture as are adapted to the soil and climate of Minnesota. Article III. Membership. Any person may become a member by paying to the secretary or treasurer an annual fee of one dollar, or a life member by the payment of ten dollars, provided that life members may pay the fee of ten dollars in two equal annual payments of five dollars each. Local or county horticultural societies and kindred organizations may become auxiliary to this Society, and their members entitled to all the rights and privileges of membership by sending three delegates, furnishing a list of members and a report of the proceedings thereof to this Society at its annual winter meeting. Honorary members, for a time stated or for life, may be elected at any annual meeting by a two-thirds vote of the Society. Article IV. Officers. Its officers shall consist of a president and one vice president from each congressional district, a secretary, treasurer, and an executive committee of five, and librarian.
