Excerpt from Annual Report of the Librarian of Congress: For the Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 1973 From January 1, 1962, through June 30, 1973, the Library Of Congress Special Currency Program, known familiarly as the pl. 480 Program, acquired over million items for American libraries. Within the first six months of calendar 1973, however, the Office of Management and Budget informed the Library that excess currencies available for funding the programs in Sri Lanka, Israel, and Yugoslavia were running out. Accordingly, the Tel Aviv office was closed in May 1973 and the issue of the Accessions List: Israel, covering the month of April, was the final number in this serial of 10 years' standing. From March 1964 through May 1973 the Public Law 480 Office in Tel Aviv acquired and shipped more than million items to American research libraries, and an additional monographs and serials were distributed to the 300 participants in the English-language program between 1965 and 1969. The Library will continue to process Israeli acquisitions. To continue acquisitions of current Yugoslavian materials, the Library selected a blanket-order and subscription agent who planned significant expansion of his activities. The program in Sri Lanka was terminated on June 30, 1973, but Public Law 480 coverage was succeeded in July by a cooperative acquisitions program supported by 17 libraries - California at Berkeley, Chicago, Cornell; Duke, Harvard, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Syracuse, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Yale Universities and the Center for Research Libraries. Participation in the program is Open to any American library prepared to contribute $500 annually for English-language publications only, $700 for English and Tamil publications, or for publications in English, Tamil, and Sinhalese. The New Delhi office will continue to issue and distribute the Accessions List: Sri Lanka. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
