Awash with humor, insight, love, and the heartbreaks of life, An Orchid for a Silver Lining: If the Kitchen Table Could Talk is a full-length memoir beginning with the author’s parents’ emigration from Newfoundland to New York in 1922. Written in a whimsical, observational style and pace, the author details coming of age in Albany, New York, the military service of her father and brothers in WWI and WWII, alcoholism, Alzheimer’s, and parenthood. The orchid is a gift from her first love; the silver lining is a reward of recovery from alcoholism; and the kitchen table is the author’s voice. About the Author Eileen O’Dea Roach is the youngest of nine, lost in the shuffle of siblings, ages spread over twenty-four years. Her story is for those afraid to speak their truth. She earned an AD at Hudson Valley Community College, then a Bachelor of Arts in English from the College of Saint Rose while assistant to the college grant writer during her last year of study. Professionally, she spent years as a legal secretary, legislative assistant for NYS labor union, and is a member of United Steelworkers Staff Union.

Ready to roll the dice again on love? A warm novel about starting again and finding love when you least expect it. Perfect for fans of Trisha ashley and Katie Fforde. Succumbing to a rather clichéd midlife crisis, Dan Haywood swaps his family for an expensive red sports car and a younger woman. After 24 years of marriage, his wife Sarah is left to pick up the pieces. Trying her best to re-style her life, comfort hurt children, make time for 'helpful' friends and maintain her burgeoning career as a dress designer, Sarah feels pulled in a hundred directions. And it doesn't help that obstacles – mostly in the form of other middle-aged men – seem to conspire against her. Proud of herself for moving house and starting to build an independent life, she is shocked when Robert Maynard, her rather dashing new next-door neighbour, insists that the house was promised to him. Now she is destined to be pulled into his life by events beyond her control. After one failed marriage, will she be able to find happiness again? And do second chances really come to those who wait? This book was previously published as The Orchid Lover under the name Mary De Laszlo.

[This] beautiful book turns craft into wearable art. Using black-and-white diagrams to clarify procedures, [Benson] introduces two types of beadwork: needle weaving, in which beads are threaded together; and card stitching, in which beads are sewn directly onto a backing of lightweight cardboard or construction paper....More than 40 gorgeous projects. A splendid book."--Booklist. "A visual feast."--Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot. Ann Benson, one of America's foremost bead artisans, offers an array of eye-catching projects for beaded jewelry and accessories, all created from the surprisingly simple technique of beadweaving and showcased in gorgeous full-page photographs. The patterns and instructions for 50 of her most spectacular pieces use two basic methods: needleweaving, a style similar to crocheting, and bead card stitching, in which beads are sewn directly onto a patterned card. Ranging in style from Southwestern to Far Eastern, and Art Deco to Victorian, the projects include shimmering topaz earrings, a richly patterned Oriental carpet purse, a delicate ribbon pin, an exquisite purple floral belt, and much more. Every project highlights the beads' exciting colors, shapes, sizes, and textures.
