Excerpt from An Historical Sketch of the Old Village of New Lisbon, Ohio: With Biographical Notes of Its Citizens Prominent in the Affairs of the Village, State and Nation The first white man who beheld the territory em braced within the limits of the present village of Lisbon a little more than a century ago, certainly found it pleasing to the view. A well wooded plain of considerable size at the base of a level topped. Forest covered hill on the north, and lying in the bend of a beautiful stream, the middle fork of the Little Beaver Creek. Which separated it from the steep pine clad hills on the west and south, with numerous springs of pure cold water and a rich soil that would produce abundant crops, while fish were plentiful in the stream and game was not scarce in the forest, all served to make it an ideal place for the home of the pioneer.
