Excerpt from Minutes of the Proceedings of the Medical Society of the State of the North Carolina: At Its First Annual Communication; Held in Raleigh, April, 1850 The proceedings of this morning were read and approved. The President, Dr. E. Strudwick, was present and took the chair, and called the meeting to order. Drs. W. A. Norwood, J. B. Jones and Thomas H.Turner, members of this Society, also appeared and took their seats. The Committee on credentials reported the names of Dr. Johnston B.Jones as a Delegate from the County Society of Orange, and Dr. E. B. Haywood from that of Wake; and that Drs. John Thompson of Johnston County, and Charles Dewey from Wayne, be admitted members of this Society; which report was concurred in. Dr. Williamson offered the following Resolution, which was agreed to: Resolved, That the address which was expected to be delivered by the President on assuming the duties of the Chair at the opening of the Society, be deferred until to-morrow, and that it be delivered in the Senate chamber at the same time of that of Dr. Cameron's. The Secretary presented the Constitution and By-Laws of the following County Societies, which had been sent to him as required by the Constitution of the State Society: Orange, Caswell, Wistar Med. Society of Mecklenburg, Edgecombe, Beaufort, Hyde, Piedmont Med. Society, and Wake. Dr. Satchwell moved that a committee of three be appointed, and that the Constitutions and By-Laws of the County Societies be referred to them to ascertain wherein they contravene the laws of the State Society, and report such alterations or amendments as they require. Committee, Drs. Mercer, Turner and Anderson. The above Constitutions and Bye-Laws were referred to this committee. Dr. Satchwell offered the following Resolution, which was adopted: Resolved, That a committee of three be appointed by the President to nominate Officers to serve the present year for this Society, and Delegates to the National Medical Association.
