The book, Alfie and Papas Other Boys, is the fourth in a series which began with Alfies Story, Little Boy Growing Up. After that the exciting story of Alfie and the Moonshiners. Next came And the Rest of Alfies Story. I really thought that was the rest of the story. It wasnt. Now we have these tales, beginning with Papas Missing Toe, and ending with Tis a Mark of Distinction. There is not a dull moment in between these two fascinating pictures of Papas role in the lives of his four boys. Willie is the oldest, the ring leader in all their mischief, and the embodiment of primogeniture because Margaret died. There is Cliff. Granma characterized him when she said Give that boy a wheel and he will roll it off the edge of the world. And Junior is Alfies nemesis; he is just enough bigger than Alfie to taunt him, and not bigger enough to control him. Lastly, there is Alfie, the Baby, impulsive, irrepressible and curious beyond belief. But always the Baby until the arrival of Jody, ten years late for this book of Alfie tales.

Myths in the Bible grew out of the controversy over the Bible. Is every word the factual truth, just like God gave it to the men whom He inspired to write it? Or is it a book of myths written by the hand of man to tell us what happened to them when they met God? The answer hinges on the meaning of myth which is a special way of telling a story to show how God gets His point across to man. So myth is truth, but truth that is not dependent on facts to undergird it. Myths in the Bible tells the truth about God and man in the struggle of life. Myth is God's Hand reaching out to man. It is man trying to get a hold on God's Hand. It is God and man, hand in hand, facing life on this earth.

THE MOONSHINERS is an Easterday tale of high adventure, of dire threat to the lives of two little boys, Alfie and Junior, lost in the vast Burl Green Woods, and the dramatic rescue which reunites them with their anxious family. It is a story full of both villains and heroes. The moonshiners are the villains; Papa and Mister Charles and Willie are heroes. Sandy, the mostly collie dog, is the greatest hero of them all. Mama and Cliff and Miss Maggie are heroic too, for they wait at home, hanging between hope and despair. And Gran'ma who prays for her babies. And the Sheriff. Surely there has never been another like him, and yet he is the classic prototype of THE LAW. Some of these characters are real people from the author's childhood. There is no need to shield them from their rightful place in the sun by using fictional names for them. Others are fictional characters created for the purpose of making the tale more interesting. Even they are treated as well as they deserve.

A touching "riches to rags" story set during the second-worst disaster in the history of Atlantic Canada. Eleven-year-old Triffie is the middle daughter of a well-to-do merchant. Triffie knows nothing about what it means to be poor -- until the disastrous fire of 1892 burns down most of St. John's, Newfoundland, leaving Triffie's family and 15,000 others homeless. The fire claimed everything but their underwear, Mother's best china . . . and Triffie's journal. With no other options, Triffie's family moves into a filthy warehouse while they attempt to rebuild their lives from the ground up. The aftermath of the fire teaches Triffie a lot about what it means to survive. More importantly, she comes face to face with her own prejudices, and begins to develop a much greater appreciation for how the less fortunate live.

For fans of Downton Abbey, Gosford Park and After the Party. Duty, scandal, and a mother’s desperate attempt to protect her sons from a secret that will destroy them. 'A breathtakingly good, heartbreaking and utterly absorbing story.' Cressida Connolly, author of After the Party LONDON 1921 – Jean Buckman, a young and innocent American heiress arrives in England to find a society decimated by war but resolutely clinging to the status quo. She marries Edward Warre an engaging but complex man and the owner of a once great but now struggling estate. As the marriage falters, Jean spends her summers in the South of France where she embarks on a passionate affair that will have repercussions for the rest of her life. Two sons arrive, the oldest, heir to the estate, is not the true bloodline. But Edward needs Jean’s money to survive, and she needs her husband's silence. The Other Side of Paradise is the heart-breaking story of a family ripped apart by the shackles of inheritance and the rules imposed upon them by a society that cannot face the truth. 'With gorgeously fluid prose that never snags on the period detail, Beaumont is a debut writer with a bold future.' Jessica Fellowes, author of The Mitford Murders

Invited to London by the Duke and Duchess of Lancaster, Erik is resigned to working on the Duke’s amateur opera, but he is not prepared to face two figures from his past, Dr. Richmond and Celeste Renoit. Sculptress and murderer, Celeste Renoit, like Erik, was once interned in Dr. Richmond’s asylum in Austria. Now with the patronage of London society, she prepares for an exhibition of her work: a series of busts based on Erik’s unmasked face. No less disturbing is the rumor that Dr. Richmond is working on a manuscript of his most interesting cases, including that of the Phantom of the Opera. But darker deeds may be in store for Erik and his family. For bodies have been found floating in the river, drained of blood, their faces mutilated.
