He was one of the number selected by Bishop Fitzpatrick of Boston, in 1847, to lecture in that city during the times when anti catholic feeling ran so high. In this work he had as associates Dr. Brownson, Father Larkin, S. J Rev. Dr. Manahan, and Rev. Dr. Cummings. In 1858, at the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Mount St. Mary's, he was selected as one of the poets for the occasion.
