Fool @ Forty, is a dream that started seven years ago on the eve of my 40th birthday. Inspiration to put words onto paper began when my stories were heard with rapt attention by the children of my friends during the T.B.Dam M2 Meet. The life experiences we had as kids and later as adolescents are missed by today’s children who are either glued to the television or sent for tuitions even during their summer holidays.

This book promotes a historically and culturally sensitive understanding of trauma during and after World War II. Focusing especially on Eastern and Central Europe, its contributors take a fresh look at the experiences of violence and loss in 1939–45 and their long-term effects in different cultures and societies. The chapters analyze traumatic experiences among soldiers and civilians alike and expand the study of traumatic violence beyond psychiatric discourses and treatments. While acknowledging the problems of applying a present-day medical concept to the past, this book makes a case for a cultural, social and historical study of trauma. Moving the focus of historical trauma studies from World War I to World War II and from Western Europe to the east, it breaks new ground and helps to explain the troublesome politics of memory and trauma in post-1945 Europe all the way to the present day. This book is an outcome of a workshop project ‘Historical Trauma Studies,’ funded by the Joint Committee for the Nordic Research Councils in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NOS-HS) in 2018–20. Chapters 4, 5 and 6 are available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.

A PERSONAL MESSAGE TO MY READERS Look deep within yourselves Do you have a well-hidden inferiority complex, low self-esteem or feelings of inadequacy in some area of your life? Have you been denied opportunities you thought really belonged to you and could not find an explanation? Has there been love or relationships gone wrong that should not have? What about negative circumstances appearing in your life under which you feel you had no control? What about obstacles hurled into your life from out of nowhere? Have you dreamed of improving your life but every avenue toward that dream became blocked? If the answer to one or more of the above questions is "Yes," then this book is for you, your personal highway map for gaining control of your life for successful living. It is a straightforward, no nonsense learning manual dealing with the wondrous horizons which lay before you thus erasing ignorance, superstition or fear. This is not necessarily a book on religion or any religious belief but rather, a thought-provoking, attitude adjustment on how religion, science and philosophy play an integral part of your everyday living. Feelings of insecurity are deadly. Insecurity begets an inferiority complex, low self-esteem or inadequacy. You were not born with these emotions. Therefore, they had to be acquired. They are nothing short of being smokescreens hindering you from improving your life of becoming that wonderful, beautiful and talented person you were meant to be. Each of you is a precious creation There are no other creations in the universe as magnificently designed by the Infinite Architect. You were given dominion over all the other creatures in this universe and this glorious gift called life. What other creation thinks, rationalizes, make decisions and acts with intelligence? This is your birthright. You are something special You are in charge Please keep this in mind. All is Universal Law as set forth by the Divine Architect. There is nothing outside the Law, absolutely nothing In order to live a fulfilled life, you must learn the Law and how to apply it to your life. The Law is simple and easy to understand. There is nothing mysterious in this book. There is no guesswork When you begin to grasp and realize the immense power you hold in your hands, nothing, absolutely nothing, will be withheld from you. Obstacles will dissolve before your very eyes. Hold this thought You were divinely made ." . . in the Image After the Likeness. . . ." REMEMBER IT Elizabeth Jean Levy

Twenty-one vivid, moving essays on caesarean birth “No one talks about C-sections as surgery,” writes SooJin Pate. “They talk about it as if it’s just another way—albeit more convenient way—of giving birth.” The twenty-one essays in My Caesarean add back to the conversation the missing voices of a vast, invisible sisterhood. Robin Schoenthaler reflects: “A C-section for us meant life.” And yet, women who don’t give birth vaginally—by choice or necessity—often feel stigmatized. “My son’s birth was not a test I needed to pass,” writes Sara Bates. “As if growing a human inside another human for nine months then caring for it the rest of its life isn’t enough,” adds Mary Pan, herself a physician. Alongside their personal stories, the writers—decorated novelists, poets, and essayists—address the history of the C-section as well as its risks, social inequities, impact on the body, and psychological aftermath. My Caesarean is a heartfelt meditation, offering much-needed comfort through shared experience. Contributors include: Catherine Newman, Judy Batalion, Nicole Cooley, Aimee Nezhukumatathil, Lisa Solod, Misty Urban, Jacinda Townsend, Mary Pan, Robin Schoenthaler, Elizabeth Noll, Jen Fitzgerald, Tyrese Coleman, SooJin Pate, Daniela Montoya-Barthelemy, Cameron Dezen Hammon, LaToya Jordan, Sara Bates, Susan Hoffmann, and Alicia Jo Rabins.

“Mum, where is Dad, has he gone to bed?” I didn't know where my dad had gone because he just disappeared. I should really have got used to my dad getting drunk because he seemed to spend a lot of time drinking. But when I think about it, his drunkenness didn’t bother me too much: it was the punching of my mum and myself that hurt me the most. However, I did find time to have fun with a couple of friends that I had. The secret agent games that I invented from time to time coincided with the true-life games and excitement that I found along the way.

In 1977, P.M.H. Atwater had an experience that changed her life: she died. Or rather, she almost died. Like millions of other people around the world, she had survived a Near-Death Experience (NDE). Compelled to share this experience with others, she wrote Coming Back to Life, an account that became an instant sensation, and is now considered a classic on the subject of NDE.

By the author of “ Jesus: the Evidence” . This book investigates the question of whether there is life after death, based on real-life experiences. It explores aspects of the near-death experience, such as the floating “ out of body” and the “ going back” to physical life.
