Goodman Adams is a genealogy study that follows one line of the Adams family through ten generations from 1630 to 1970. The first segment explores three generations in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut when Puritan culture presented unique challenges and opportunities for settlers in the New World. The next piece looks at one generation of family members who experienced life during and after the American Revolution, primarily in Connecticut and New York. The last part traces six generations as they migrated westward, first from New York to Illinois, then to Iowa and Missouri, where they endured economic growth and the Great Depression. The text includes pedigree charts for nine generations, a summary of over 200 family groups, and an index of 1,300 individuals. Discovering new family records is akin to finding buried treasure. They can also reveal surprises, such as learning a colonial ancestor was an indentured servant consigned to work for others for several years in exchange for passage to the New World - perhaps unwillingly! Absent a complete set of facts, circumstantial evidence can be a satisfying substitute, as it allows the researcher to draw logical conclusions about the events of an ancestor's life. I am confident the information contained within these pages will assist other researchers in learning new details about their own ancestral lines. Mark R. Johnson
