Rings, Modules, Algebras, and Abelian Groups summarizes the proceedings of a recent algebraic conference held at Venice International University in Italy. Surveying the most influential developments in the field, this reference reviews the latest research on Abelian groups, algebras and their representations, module and ring theory, and topological algebraic structures, and provides more than 600 current references and 570 display equations for further exploration of the topic. It provides stimulating discussions from world-renowned names including Laszlo Fuchs, Robert Gilmer, Saharon Shelah, Daniel Simson, and Richard Swan to celebrate 40 years of study on cumulative rings. Describing emerging theories

This volume presents the proceedings from the conference on Abelian Groups, Rings, and Modules (AGRAM) held at the University of Western Australia (Perth). Included are articles based on talks given at the conference, as well as a few specially invited papers. The proceedings were dedicated to Professor László Fuchs. The book includes a tribute and a review of his work by his long-time collaborator, Professor Luigi Salce. Four surveys from leading experts follow Professor Salce's article. They present recent results from active research areas

This is a memorial volume dedicated to A. L. S. Corner, previously Professor in Oxford, who published important results on algebra, especially on the connections of modules with endomorphism algebras. The volume contains refereed contributions which are related to the work of Corner. It contains also an unpublished extended paper of Corner himself. A memorial volume with important contributions related to algebra.

This book provides an introduction to topological groups and the structure theory of locally compact abelian groups, with a special emphasis on Pontryagin-van Kampen duality, including a completely self-contained elementary proof of the duality theorem. Further related topics and applications are treated in separate chapters and in the appendix.

This monograph covers in a comprehensive manner the current state of classification theory with respect to infinite abelian groups. A wide variety of ways to characterise different classes of abelian groups by invariants, isomorphisms and duality principles are discussed.

On the 26th of November 1992 the organizing committee gathered together, at Luigi Salce's invitation, for the first time. The tradition of abelian groups and modules Italian conferences (Rome 77, Udine 85, Bressanone 90) needed to be kept up by one more meeting. Since that first time it was clear to us that our goal was not so easy. In fact the main intended topics of abelian groups, modules over commutative rings and non commutative rings have become so specialized in the last years that it looked really ambitious to fit them into only one meeting. Anyway, since everyone of us shared the same mathematical roots, we did want to emphasize a common link. So we elaborated the long symposium schedule: three days of abelian groups and three days of modules over non commutative rings with a two days' bridge of commutative algebra in between. Many of the most famous names in these fields took part to the meeting. Over 140 participants, both attending and contributing the 18 Main Lectures and 64 Communications (see list on page xv) provided a really wide audience for an Algebra meeting. Now that the meeting is over, we can say that our initial feeling was right.

The main theme of this book is that the use of filtered spaces rather than just topological spaces allows the development of basic algebraic topology in terms of higher homotopy groupoids; these algebraic structures better reflect the geometry of subdivision and composition than those commonly in use. Exploration of these uses of higher dimensional versions of groupoids has been largely the work of the first two authors since the mid 1960s. The structure of the book is intended to make it useful to a wide class of students and researchers for learning and evaluating these methods, primarily in algebraic topology but also in higher category theory and its applications in analogous areas of mathematics, physics, and computer science. Part I explains the intuitions and theory in dimensions 1 and 2, with many figures and diagrams, and a detailed account of the theory of crossed modules. Part II develops the applications of crossed complexes. The engine driving these applications is the work of Part III on cubical $\omega$-groupoids, their relations to crossed complexes, and their homotopically defined examples for filtered spaces. Part III also includes a chapter suggesting further directions and problems, and three appendices give accounts of some relevant aspects of category theory. Endnotes for each chapter give further history and references.
