The Indianapolis ABCs were formed around the turn of the century, playing company teams from around the city; they soon played other teams in Indiana, including some white teams. Their emergence coincided with the remarkable growth of black baseball, and by 1916 the ABCs won their first major championship. When the Negro National League was formed in 1920, Indianapolis was one of its charter members. But player raids by the Eastern Colored League, formed in 1923, hurt the ABCs and by the Depression the team was fading into oblivion. The team was briefly resurrected as a Negro league team in the late 1930s, but was otherwise relegated to the semiprofessional ranks until its demise in the 1940s. Through contemporary newspaper accounts, extensive research and interviews with the few former ABC players still living, this is the story of the Indianapolis team and the rise of Negro League baseball. The work includes a roster of ABC players, with short biographies of the most prominent.

It's a children's alphabet and counting book from the legendary ESPN college basketball analyst, Dick Vitale. In the book, children learn their alphabet through high-energy basketball words that Dick uses in his national broadcasts. For example, "D" is for "dunk" and "J" is for "jump". In the counting section of the book, Dick leads kids in counting using colorful basketballs. The book has a special feature (may not be available on all e-readers): a video introduction by Dick Vitale and digital audio clips for all 26 letters in Vitale’s own voice "broadcasting" different phrases to encourage the child, including "You and Me-What a Team" and Vitale's signature catchphrase: "You're Awesome, Baby!" The book is illustrated with a colorful menagerie of animal characters and a tiny little version of Dickie V. Dr. Bryan Nelson, a long-time member of the American Academy of Pediatrics says the book is an excellent tool for early childhood development

Two children identify a problem within their community and go through the process of gathering research, joining organizations, using technology and creating a solution in order to make the world a better place. This A-Z guide provides learning experiences that help students gain the skills and knowledge to take sustained and meaningful action. It includes photocopiable extension activities and active links to free online resources such as: a complementary curriculum document, videos, eBooks, as well as a community of student change agents. These resources enable teachers to implement a comprehensive program that further explore the concepts within this book. Both book and resources were created as a result of a teacher-initiated action research project published in the IB Journal of Teaching Practice.
