Excerpt from A Review of Mining Operations in the State of South Australia During the Half-Year Ended December 31st, 1910, Vol. 13 With copper, our principal metal, at such a low figure throughout the half-year, it naturally follows that, except at the old and well-established mines, mining opera tions in connection with the red metal have been considerably restricted, and prospecting for new finds has practically ceased until better markets prevail. Excerpt from A Review of Mining Operations in the State of South Australia During the Half-Year Ended December 31st, 1909, Vol. 11 The average price of standard copper for the half-year has been £59, the lowest since 1903. The total value of the output of copper for the year slightly exceeded that for 1908, a result somewhat unexpected in view of low prices and the restriction of operations in the latter portion of the year owing to the recent coal strike in New South Wales. The output of salt is smaller for the past year owing to the exceptionally wet and prolonged winter. This will result in an increased deposit for the ensuing season. The strike at Broken Hill brought the ironstone and limestone flux indus tries to a standstill for a lengthy period. With a settlement of these disputes and a rising market for copper the present outlook for the mining industry is much more encouraging than it was at the beginning of 1909.
