The first full scale biography of Robert Gibbings, with more than 400 illustrations, encompassing his whole life and providing a context for his work and achievements. Gibbings is often described as having been larger than life, a colourful and adventurous character but he was also responsible, perhaps more than anyone else, for bringing the art of wood-engraving to the attention of the general public. This book brings together a wealth of illustrations, both of Gibbing's own work and photographs recording his life, many unpublished.

More popular than ever, the work of Eric Ravilious (1903-42) is rooted in the landscape of mid-20th-century England. This new survey of his work by Alan Powers, the established authority on Ravilious, is the first to provide a comprehensive overview of his art in all media - watercolour, illustration, printmaking, graphic design, textiles and ceramics - and positions Ravilious firmly as a major figure in the history of early 20th-century British art. In an accessible and engaging text, copiously illustrated with reproductions of work drawn from a range of sources, Alan Powers discusses the reception of Ravilious's work since his death in 1942 and the part it has played in creating an English style of the time, positioned between tradition and Modernism, and borrowing from naive and popular art of the past.

The renaissance of printing is generally accepted as starting in 1891, the date of the first publication from William Morris's Kelmscott Press. In that year, Morris printed his own Story of the Glittering Plain, so beginning a movement that was to continue until 1939. The author begins his survey with the Daniel Press, started by the Provost of Worcester College, Oxford, and traces the development of the private movement in printing which flourished between 1891 and 1914: these presses include Kelmscott, Ashendene, Essex House, Vale and Doves. Between the wars in Britain three presses stand out: the Gregynog Press, Shakespeare Head, and Golden Cockerel. This book is the only one of its kind to trace the history and development of these presses, publishers of some of the finest examples of printing of English books that has ever been known.

A trip across the Pacific turns into a life or death scenario when the crew of the HMS Bounty stages a revolt against their commander. The Bounty Mutiny tells the controversial story of the mutineers and the acting lieutenant who sparked a movement. Commanding Lieutenant William Bligh was instructed to use the HMS Bounty to transport breadfruit plants to the West Indies. He worked alongside skilled colleague Fletcher Christian, who was selected to be acting lieutenant. During their time at sea, the crew experienced many challenges with complaints of abuse and tyranny at the hands of Bligh. This eventually leads to a mutiny, in which Christian and the crew take control of the vessel. This harrowing tale is one of the most adapted events of all-time. Over the past century, it has been interpretated across multiple mediums including five feature films starring George Cross, Errol Flynn, Clark Gable, Marlon Brando and Anthony Hopkins. It’s an enduring story that continues to fascinate and provoke the masses. With an eye-catching new cover, and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of The Bounty Mutiny is both modern and readable.
