These lectures aim to help readers understand the logics and nature of the main indicators of inequality and poverty, with special attention to their social welfare underpinnings. Conceptualization and measurement of poverty have traditionally relied on purely economic approaches, with income or consumption as the only indicator. Debates around quality versus quantity in education can generate controversy about how quality is measured.
